I too saw Hamilton last night!!

what a fantastic show!

personally, I love a good musical. my wife dragged me to Les Miserables decades ago, and we never stopped. there is something about live performers singing and acting that really gets the imagination going. they perform moves that infers something is happening, with lights and a moving stage..so dope!! (like the bullet traveling between two gun toting duelers - played by a hot chick in tights and knee high boots)

intermission, I was pissing and a dad and his three sons were next to me singing songs they just heard. pretty cool way to ignore the "eyes forward, mouth shut" urinal rule we all grew up with. the audience was fired up.

only one musical I found boring, but for the most part..I love going to them.

My late in-law's had season tickets most years for the local fine arts theater and would give my wife and I the tickets on days they couldn't attend or had seen the show before.
Seeing Phantom of the Opera with Micheal Crawford in the lead was the one that got me hooked.
We haven't been in quite some time, and probably couldn't afford tickets now, but I did appreciate the opportunity back then. We saw Dream Girls off Broadway when we went to NYC oh so many years ago (well before kids came along).

I didn't try hard enough to see Hamilton, partly because the tickets were so expensive and partly because I couldn't believe a musical on this subject could be so good. I wasn't gung-ho to get on the bandwagon. I enjoy plays, musical and otherwise. I thought Les Misérables was stunning and saw it three times in completely different venues. I saw The Elephant Man in SF and with David Bowie in Chicago- both great. Perhaps my all time favorite was Dick Van Dyke in The Music Man.

My wife and my high school daughter saw that. Daughter (and her orchestra friend) can sing the entire show word for word and is completely in love with it. MiL is buying her the LP for Christmas.

My mom had season tickets to the Broadway series in Houston when I was a kid so I saw a lot of shows. Then she bought me season tickets after my divorce 13 years ago but after a couple years of my seats not getting much better, I didn't renew them.

The wife and I were in New York a couple years ago and did manage to get Hamilton tickets. We bought them a couple months early but were only able to get two singles at the very end of row 2 and 3. So we couldn't see about 20% of the stage but what we could see was about as close as you can get. Also saw Wicked on that trip which is one of my favorites.

My favorite? Tommy. I saw it in Houston about 30 years ago. By far the loudest musical I've seen. At the start of the show, a soldier came out alone on stage and unloaded a WW2 grease gun. Crazy loud, bright, unexpected, and awesome!

Hamilton is a great show. But so is Annie. We wrapped up a 3-week run yesterday at our theater in Half Moon Bay. I was a hobo in Hooverville, a servant in Warbuck's mansion, an then Judge Brandeis in Act 2. I, too, love musical theater, but being in them, singing and dancing, is the most fun of all. Every show of ours sold out before opening, and we got a standing ovation for every performance. More than one person said it was the best musical they'd ever seen. The actors for Warbucks and Grace, his secretary, were seasoned opera singers. And all the little orphans were incredible. I'm gonna miss hanging out with them all backstage. If you have even a vague idea that you would like to try out musical theater, I highly recommend it. What an adventure.
