The only thing I like about Christmas...
Fruitcake!
https://www.everydaycheapskate.com/w...8f5a2fbce2.jpg I really can't stand the commercialism of Christmas, and the fake holiday sentiments. My feeling is treat people with kindness everyday. And why wait for that one time of the year to give gifts to those that you love and care about? |

It's the birthday of Jesus too......I mean if we're looking at the big picture and all.......(shrug).........

I love me some fruitcake too. Not sure why it gets a bad rap or becomes the butt of jokes.
My local grocery store seems to just have one brand and it is expensive, $35 if memory serves, but they will start marking it down until it finally sells out. I paid around $12 for one last year. |

When it is over. Even the simplest things, like buying cards, is a stark reminder of who is no longer there anymore. I no longer need cards for my grandparents, my father, sister or brother, and the most special lady to have ever come into my life :(
When looking for a card for my Mother and Aunt, all of those are plenty, yet,try finding a Christmas card to Mother, as they all seem to say Mom, my Mother hates being called “Mom”. Now I did find a little bit of joy on the card front this year, as I lady in a facebook group I’m in, about the county I reside in asked to if a few people would mind sending Christmas cards to the 4 children she recently adopted. She didn’t ask for money or any gifts, just cards addressed to the 4 kids. So I did that, and before I sealed the envelopes, I added cash to each card, so they would at least have that, plus I sent her a card so she would not be left out. You see, she was also adopted as a youth so she understands better than most of us, what means to feel like, especially in a new situation where no one knows them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735218981.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735218981.jpg |
I had a great Christmas season!
I helped a local school with their Christmas Winterfest party. I talked the local Little Debbie supplier into donating 4 cases (320 pieces) of Christmas tree cakes for the party. Thanks, Alex! One of the kids made this card that was sent to him. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223363.jpg I talked the local professional face painter into spending 4 hours at the party. Almost 80 attendees were painted. 2 to 3 minutes per. Thanks, Bianca! A sampling... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223596.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223596.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735224950.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735225316.jpg I donated a few bucks to help buy the kids a present from the individual wish lists. A sampling of the many thank you notes I received. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223884.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1735223884.jpg |
I love fruitcake. I can’t make it, so I buy it. I didn’t this year cuz of my personal sugar ban, but a hunk of fruitcake is like the OG energy bar.
I freeze it until spring kayak bass season when I eat it to supercharge myself. I buy the Collins Street version out of Texas. Dense and sticky. |

Same town as another fruitcake company that’s easier to find in a search, but their stuff isn’t nearly as good. If you ever get down near there it’s worth a detour. |

Southern Supreme ... I think that's the one mom & friends invade by bus each year :) |
The canned Wombles bourbon fruitcake is THE one to get.
