Finally bought a Barbie spoon.
The only black scary looking rifle I have owned is a well worn MAK-90, and that was only shot occasionally on the last day of deer camp. Picked up a Ruger 556 today. Went there with every intention of buying a Colt 6960. I like the 556 more, the fit seemed better in couple places, and it was $400 less. They had a deal on an inexpensive red dot when you picked up any AR, a Vortex, got it just to get started. Bought it for target shooting, I am going to do some research and buy some nice iron sights, and explore other optics options. I will let my mid-50s eyes be my guide as to what works. I honestly feel kinda embarrassed owning this thing, I will have to go fire my .50 Hawken more this summer as atonement. Tear down is quite a bit more complicated than an AK.

Oh man, let the customizing rabbit hole trip begin. You can buy cheapo flip up Magpul BUIS on Amazon. Doesn't look like you can easily attach much on the bottom side. I recently threw a forced reset trigger on one my ARs and it's a real hoot, if you like shredding $100 bills. Totally legal in AZ too.

My daughter has one just like it.

Lower the dot, so it cowitnesses with irons.
I'm not a fan of the flip up irons - I like the UTG "slim" fixed sights. Be aware the front comes in two styles - "gas block height" and "rail height". For your set up, you want rail height. Then a different riser for your red dot (look for one meant for cowitnessing with A2 sights) and you'll rock and roll. Dot helps with quick pick up and lower light conditions, but you still have good/great irons. |

I was truly expecting this...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1737369748.jpg Very disappointed in ya! |
Someone clue me in. Why does HD call it a Barbie spoon?
(Spoon I get.) Thank ya in advance. |

Have fun! They are a blast to shoot and now that ammo is reasonable again, not too pricey. I have a very hard time focusing through a true scope and don’t absolutely love a red dot. If you have crappy eyes like I do, try out a holographic sight like an EOTech. The large eye box makes it way easier to focus, at least for my terrible eyesight. Also considering you have a pretty basic (but nice) one as a starting point, a really good quality trigger will make a HUGE difference. Otherwise it’s Barbie time….:)

Of the 5 lowers and 4 uppers I have (well, complete uppers, got parts around here for most of 2 more) only one upper (my 9mm side charger) was factory assembled. |

If I had "Jay Leno money", besides cars, I'd have a bunch different pistols.
I think it would be a hoot to have a Barbie pink & glitter Glock 40 (full size, long slide, 10mm). The appearance of that monster in pink & glitter would mentally freeze the bad guy so you would only need one shot to get the job done. It would a fun conversation piece at the next BBQ. |
