When I bought my tub back in '05....there were a few photos in the glove box showing it on a rotisserie while receiving body work. Other than that I had zero past records of any work done.

Then a few years after registering it on the 356 Registry, I was contacted by a shop in Virginia that found several boxes of service records for a couple different old tubs...including mine. Including the original sales invoice. I've posted some of them on here before.

Nice knowing it was looked after so many years.....

I wish I could find the previous owner of my car. I did have the title of the orig owner, but did not

make a copy of it. All I remember is her name was Donna Mae from Virginia. It would be nice

to find out its history.

A few years ago I acquired a first gen Golf Cabriolet. In the glove box were the service records for the first twenty years of its life. After fixing what needed to be fixed and realizing I didn't really want it, I passed the service records on to the buyer, but I destroyed the citation for failure to stop at a stop sign from 1992. :D

Best

Wow, I'd never heard about that and don't remember seeing those posts. It's amazing that the shop didn't just trash them and instead got them to you. That's awesome.

Many, many times when a car is sold through some sort of dealer, they trash the records instead of passing them on to the next owner. I know when I sold my old targa, the dealer that bought it didn't hang on to the records that I gave them (saw it for sale online and called out of curiosity).

One of the 944s I bought from an insurance auction had receipts in the glove box with credit card info.
Shredded immediately.

I have the original owner's registration from one of my cars.... I once owned "Karma Carrera' of John Oates, of Hall & Oats. Think I was the third owner, next owner put it in BAT.

Why would you toss those?

wdfifteen 01-20-2025 08:39 AM

Why get rid of them? They are part of the car's history. For some buyers this kind of history makes the car more valuable. As an owner, I'm very glad to have the names of all the previous owners as well as service receipts for my '65 VW and my '88 Carrera.

The first post doesn't make a "hole" lot of sense but the service records for any car will easily fit in the spare tire compartment on top of or behind the tire. They are out of the way and will never bother you again. They should always stay with the car, literally IMO. Not in the house or garage to be lost, in the ****ing car.

Can you tell that I'm a little OCD about records? When someone manages to lose the owners manual of a vehicle, my question is, "what was it doing outside of the car?" It's to be read sitting in the vehicle, as you bond in mind and spirit. :)

Here is the original sales invoice, Steve.

Credit the 356 Registry for keeping a record of ownership per VIN - plus the consideration of the shop owner who found them to do a little research to find the car's current owner.

Im 4th owner but 2nd owner of my 930 had it from 1980 until 1996 and when i bought it i looked at the records and found that he currently lived 1/2 mile from me. I called him up and we had lunch. Cool guy was living the dream in the 80s. Was neat to hear his stories and how much he missed the car.

The 911 I just bought came with 30 years of records in a three ring binder. It’s still sitting on the backseat. I’ve bought about $500+ worth of parts and wall add my receipts and tasks to the binder

History is fun. The original owner sent me these pics of the car - day one of ownership.

this is what a 911 SC Sport looks like.

The 85 cab I had came with a binder of receipts for parts/repairs/service starting with the original owner. I kept up with it as I did work to the car. The person who bought the car from me really liked the history behind the car. I think it added some value to the vehicle when I sold it because potential buyers could see what all had been done.

ramonesfreak 01-22-2025 03:37 AM

For my 911 (and any car I own)I keep everything and put in binders and when I buy something like a sunroof seal but do not install it until 10 years later, I go back and make notes about that on the invoice.

My car came with a decent amount of records including the original invoice from Rusnak Porsche in Pasadena

I was able to track down one of the prior owners to here but he was less than friendly which I found odd….could be he just flipped the car and had no emotional attachment to it but I have quite a few questions after owning mine for about 20 years that will go unanswered

javadog 01-22-2025 09:04 AM

Those receipts make the car more valuable and sell-able to a lot of people....

Am I the only one that gets their new car window sticker laminated?
