"HORIZON" series
I just came across a show on netflix called Horizon: an American saga.
(episode one of four). Evidently it's been around since last summer and I'm surprised it hasn't received a huge amount of of hoopla and attention. It's a Kevin Costner project that he stars in, directed, co-wrote and produced. Now I wouldn't consider myself a huge Costner fan, some of his work is great and some less so. But he nailed this. Wow. out-friggin-standing. The cinematography alone is worth the 2-1/2 hours. the sound is almost as great. But the best part is, it's real and honest. Very rare in movies and television. it is not clouded by bias or agenda, it tries to tell the story honestly without a dances with wolves BS slant. refreshing. And it's beautifully executed. I don't get exited about stuff on TV much but I've already watched this epic twice and will likely cue it up again. I've only done a little research so far but it looks like it is loosely based on historical facts surrounding Camp Grant in Arizona during post-civil war expansion Apache Indian wars, a massacre, an ugly part of history. But real. |
