The TRUTH about DavidI
You know who he is, a Pelican since 2002, you remember him for many of his very interesting posts.
Notable posts include nearly getting into a fight at CostCo, working UFC fights, PSAs about safeguarding your family and money, gun safety, insight about well publicized legal cases and perhaps his most popular threads “Tales from a Street Cop.” The guy comes across as a pretty decent guy here on the forum, well let me tell you he is not a decent guy. He’s an AWSOME guy! David DMed me out of the blue about a month ago and said he wanted to take me out to dinner to meet me. We had to delay our meeting because of the Southern California fires but we were finally able to get together last night. We met at the reception area of the Clearman’s NorthWoods Inn at San Gabriel CA and immediately bonded over “Jack” the Bear, the restaurant’s official mascot. David gave me some sage advice about bear attacks “you won’t be able to out run them.” http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738074491.jpg Once we settled into our seats we began speaking as if we were old friends. It was amazing how many Pelicans he has personally met over the years and the stories behind the meetings. Notably, one time in Pasadena maybe 15 years years ago he met up with several Pelicans and ended up going with Grady Clay to Grady’s childhood home near the Rose Bowl. Grady wanted to see his old house so David walked right up to the door, knocked, explained the situation to the homeowner and got a tour for Grady of his old house. Then there was the story how Jack Olsen drove to David’s house to help troubleshot and repair an electrical gremlin in David’s 1983 SC in record time. Jack said he was happy to help and wouldn’t accept any type of renumeration. We swapped war stories, car stories, shared family stories and three and a half hours later found ourselves closing up the restaurant with the employees. David expressed how much he likes Pelican and the characters who reside here. We gossiped about many of you but don’t worry, David didn’t have a bad word to say about any of you, me on the other hand . . . The point of this post is to stop and smell the roses. I’m glad we took the time out of our busy schedules to meet, though David now says he is retired and has a lot of free time I know he still is keeping pretty busy. Something tells me if I ever get stuck he’ll be there to save my bacon. In a world of crazies, it’s nice to know there are some real solid folks out there. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1738075680.jpg |
Like. Two cool gentlemen
|
Well if this isn't a feel-good topic, then one doesn't exist.
Thanks for sharing! |
|
Outstanding.
|
Thanks, RJ. This is like the anti-PARF!
David, don't let it go to your head. We like you now, but one slip and...... |
Great story!
I've met a bunch of different Pelicans over the years. Some local, some in my travels. Never a disappointment! (Don't know if they'd say the same about me....) :p . |
Which is which?

Terrific
For sure, David is one of the really good guys. Solid gold. Also, Jack Olsen is one of the most generous people on the planet. Lots of good ones on this forum, I think it's special but then I don't know about other ones, I've only been here for 24 years!
|
LOL ....and someone wanted to actually fight him :D
Neither one of you guys would EVER buy a beer if I were around.... Unless I was flat broke... You both .... rock :) |
There are a lot of good guys on here. (Bob K I'm not talking about you! :D)
|
Col. Raffi, sir. You ain't told us nothing we don't already know, but we appreciate the confirmation.
All the best, you two! Les |

Sweet. I’ve met a few pelicans over the years. One even became one of my best friends.
There are a few I’d really like to have a beer with… a certain Captain is close to the top of the list. I nearly. Reached out to cloggie when I was in NL a couple weeks ago. Maybe I will next trip, assuming that’s where he is. |
There was a time here where I think I had met most of the PARF regulars, but lots of them don't post much anymore. Between LA, Phoenix and Dallas, I met a lot of the inner circle here.

A most excellent post!

In my travels to Porsche Parade I have met many Pelicans from Byron in Fla, to people in California, Washington, and all across the country. All of them have been nice to meet, and cordial.
Maybe some of you guys will come to Oklahoma City this July for Porsche Parade, and I can meet more of ya! |
Thank you very much Raffi! I had a fantastic time finally meeting you in-person. I admire your military career and your solid foundational character as a man. You were one of the heroes high in the sky providing support for us Marines on the ground. We simply need more people in the world like you.
I love your optimistic view of life and your devotion to your family. You are a breath of fresh air, my friend! The only change in your initial post was that "SammyG" was the person who came to my house to diagnose and fix an electrical issue with my former 1983 SC. Jack Olson and Speeder came on ride-alongs with me in the beautiful city of Compton on the graveyard shift. There are many fantastic Pelicans on this board, including some who have passed away, who make all of us better people. I am humbled by your post about me and always strive to do my best. I will pen that book in the near future and keep everyone updated. Working patrol in some of the toughest neighbors gives you the best front-row seats for some crazy events. I have a lot of stories depicting the best and worst of our people. Cheers brother! Rock on, David |
You are welcome and anytime my friend.
My apologies to SammyG for mixing up the stories . . . It is quite an amazing community Wayne has created here, full of fantastic and interesting people. The wife has accused me of having a “Bro-Mance.” I told her there is plenty of David to go around. :) |
Let's not forget Raffi's gift to the children and troops over the years being Santa!
