I am still able to ice skate and ride a snowboard...but I don't because I'm unable to protect myself in a fall. For whatever reason I just go down as though I've taken a round to the head.

Dennis, I hope your sister is doing well, and improving.

This is probably something that almost all of us should do. I think it's come up before, that how well you can balance on one leg is an indication of how long you'll live or something like that. I assume that's due to being an indicator of fitness level and also a precursor to how likely you are to fall (get injured, etc...).

Last time I went skiing 13 years ago, I had my ski booted feet come out from under me on ice walking back to turn in my skis. Back of my head hard on the pavement fortunately I had a helmet on! Ski patrol was walking by and saw the fall. He had the look of about to be helicopter ride on his face before I smiled and pointed at my helmet.

I'm surprised police officers don't wear helmets in icy conditions especially when they're working an accident scene where cars crashed on ice.

I used to take Aikido classes. The sensei had an old student that was a roller derby girl. She spoke to the sensei and then brought her team in before class several times so the sensei could teach them how to fall. It seems that a lot of them got injured when they fell, and learning some basics in theory was going to be helpful.

Not that I'm recommending that you start taking aikido, just a related comment.

Wishing her a quick recovery.

I always chuckle when you watch a movie were someone in knocked unconscious and when they come to they continue like nothing has happened.
