Body language, success, charisma - science - video (long one)
This is really fascinating. I have never been able to "read" people.
I'm only 50 mins into this video, but it seems to be jam packed with information about how we can influence people through speech, gestures, body language, etc... (the woman calls them "cues"). I was, I think, a bit socially awkward when I was younger. I'm a lot better now, but I'm still not a natural. I think this would have good info for folks like me, but I think it would also be good for folks that were good but looking to be better, folks in business, sales, managment/leadership, etc... I think I'm going to check out one of her books. (I'm not a "self-help" kind of guy, but this seems interesting). Something that I found interesting (5:00 - 7:00) is that there's a third category besides introvert and extrovert. I've always assumed I was an introvert, but that never really seemed right because in certain situations, I can seem the opposite of that. She calls the third category an "ambivert" and her description seems to fit me pretty spot on. THis is a loooooooong video (~2:45), but I think you could watch 10 or 15 mins and come away with something. <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VHUrdELKjDw" title="Body Language Expert: Stop Using This, It’s Making People Dislike You, So Are These Subtle Mistakes!" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Thanks for this Steve. It is very interesting.:)

I was a Rhetoric and Communication major. Everyone I studied with became either a Teacher, a Salesperson, or a Lawyer. I didn't watch the video. This has been my language for decades. People are funny animals. And, since someone is going to get all funny about manipulation, I will clarify that is really is about trust, communication, and reaching a common understanding.

I'm 1:54 in and it's still very interesting. There were a couple of tangents, but still interesting. I'm going to check out her channel, and probably get a kindle version of one of her books (I've downloaded the free sample).
This is actually the second video that I've watched from this guy. The previous was with the British comedian Jimmy Carr. It was also very interesting. I may have to check out more of his stuff too. |
