Paying federal payroll taxes is a real PITA now

It used to be, I would walk over to the bank at lunchtime on the the 15th and pay with a check. This went on for years, then they decided to make it online and require you to pay at least a day early, sometimes 3 or 4 days early. This was a website that was maintained by the bank. Bank got bought, and I talked to the branch manager to see what was going to change. He says nothing will change. I specifically ask about the payroll taxes that are paid on a bank website. Nothing will change.

Turns out, bank shut down that website, so I paid late. Ask the guy about it after, blank look, why would we provide that service? Because you promised nothing would change. So I switch banks, and figure out there is a federally run website to pay your taxes. This worked three times, then never able to log in again, despite password resets, starting over with a new username and password, no good. I have just paid it on the telephone the last year, they have an 800 number for an automated system. Today, number is disconnected, so I call the support line. I ask if the number to call has been changed, nope.

I can hardly wait to see what happens next month.

That sucks! I guess this is one of those times where it's NOT good to be the king.

You ARE dealing with the Gubmint (and a bank, I guess). Sounds status quo.

EFTPS is no fun. I have to log in to a different website login.gov and get a code sent to my phone then I can log into EFTPS. I also have to file FUTA with it.

With sales taxes for the state of VA I have to do those online also and there is an option to file without paying (two buttons both look the same, but one is file and pay and the other is file and pay later). I've done it twice and it's a very expensive mistake.

eftps.gov is your option unless you get a payroll service. ADP for a small office runs maybe about a grand a year give or take.

I believe we all make mistakes but I will not validate your poor choices and/or perversions and subsidize the results your actions.

Medicare.gov

SSA.gov

Noaa.gov

Among others...work just fine in my opinion.

Also, the service is a 100% business write-off so it only costs whatever fraction of that cost in real terms.
