What would you do?
Maybe I'm too nice to others? Despite her not asking permission, I'd probably let her charge...if only to get rid of her ASAP.

This is a typical example of peoples self entitled mentality now. If she had knocked on the door and told me it was an emergency, that would’ve been one thing. But her attitude needs to be squelched. If that would’ve been me, I would’ve unplugged the charger and told her un-ass my property.
|
Her attitude is terrible.
I would have told her that and then see what she does/says. |
Yeah. No. She’d be off my property stat.
Her choice as to how. |
I would have told her leave, then if she refused call the police. Had she asked, I would have probably helped but it is no different than helping herself to a gas can in the garage unannounced.
|
I'd turn off the breaker.
|
i saw this weeks ago. It's all about her attitude and not knocking first. Hiding inside her phone during the confrontation was a big problem. I'd call the police.
A knock or a "I'm so sorry, I hope it's OK..." or whatever would have been fine with me. But being a dick gets a call to the police. |
I'd give her half a minute to get her pregnant attitude off my property while I call the police.
Edit: I'd also shut the breaker off when not in use and setup a security camera with a sign. |
Let's see, trespass, theft of property.
As stated above, no different than stealing gas. Leave now. I have your license number and am calling the police. Best Les |
I’m going to go a different direction and would have just let her charge without even talking with her because that would have been the fastest and least stressful way to handle it. She was going to be leaving shortly anyways, she just needed enough charge to get where she needed to go.
After that, I might have changed where my charger was located or hidden it better. |
This is so totally staged. But It's racking in views making somebody money, so there's that.

How do you know it's staged?

But if it wasn’t, I would be calling the Popo, and have her arrested for trespassing and theft. Her attitude screams entitlement. And my husband‘s a lawyer. BFD. |
I would have certainly filed a police report. It is not only theft, but the woman was an ass. She should have asked permission and offered to pay.
|
With her attitude, hit the road or deal with the police.

There's no way such a calm, rational, discourse would transpire. Minimum there'd be hands flying and 911 engaged. At worst, bullets would be flying and the coroner paged. |

I think this is a performance designed to get clicks. How many did PPOT add to the tally? The sad thing is people stage these kinds of performances because they know how we love our outrage. They know they can make money exploiting the worst instincts of American society, get people outraged, get them talking, get them pissed off, and they don't hesitate to do it as long as it gets them attention. They know it raises the general level of anxiety, discontent, and ultimately violence in our society, but hey, it's worth it for the money and the attention. |
Call the police and tell her they are coming and she better leave right now. That is no different than stealing anything else.

Much like the last time the religius freak that stopped by a few times to try to get me to join their church or sell their brother my 356 ...
"I have told you no and to not come back before. You got until the count of 10 to get to the otherside of my gate before I introduce you to some other old German metal and hold you at gun point for tresspassi g until the sherrif gets here" Quite effective and havent seen her since. YMMV in a nanny state like California or a lot of the North East .... |
I’m not saying it’s staged or not staged. I do know, however, that there are narcissists whom have zero problem rationalizing their conduct like this. There are also people who can maintain reason. A reasonable person would not resort to violence. In addition, the presence of a cellphone recording the whole thing definitely lowers the temperature.
I would have stayed inside and called the cops. Maybe gone out to get a pic of the license plate. I would not have engaged with the petty criminal. That just escalates the situation. |
I'd put a baby Ruger in my pocket, my dawg on a leash, and go outside to hook up a hose and water my driveway ;)....
She IS leaving ... how is up to her... full stop. I'd call 911 first too... edited: I didn't watch the video ... doesn't matter. Ask first ... I will help you... btdt.... many times unasked. |

Jury’s never going to convict after hearing that. |
For all of you who would call the cops, do you really feel like it’s a good use of your or the officers time?
A half hour of charging would be maybe a buck or two at most, the lady certainly doesn’t look threatening and it would be obvious that she was just there to charge her vehicle and wouldn’t be hanging out for too long. You would need to make the call, wait for the officer, tell your story, let her tell her story and on and on. |

Totally plausible, right? I know when I'm running low on gas, I always start cruising neighborhoods looking for a garage with an open door and a gas can sitting inside. |
If t was real. After she became argumentative I'd go back into the house and switch off the breaker to the car charger. And NOT talk with her after that point.

At what point do you think trespass and theft isn’t ok? Is there a dollar limit? Time limit? Damage limit? |
Can't you just unplug her car and send her on her way?

Besides that, what do you do when the wife gets home and Little Ms Entitled doesn't want to leave until she is fully charged? |
I would have kept my distance and simply told her to leave and called the police. A man is unwise to get into an altercation with a pregnant woman that might escalate physically if there is any way to avoid it. Especially if the woman has free legal counsel and you must pay for yours. She is a thief...let the police figure it out. If you really want to go after her, small claims court would award you at least the cost of the electricity and your time.
|
My chargers are in my garage behind a big gate. If someone does have to charge outside on their property, they can get a charger that works with a RFID card. I got one of those for my friend.
