Street takeover, Florida Style! (w/ Porsche content)

This is so S. Florida....
There was a big street takeover last Saturday. What made this one different? The number of exotic cars for one thing. The other is that the participants shut down I-75 along Alligator Alley. I'm guessing no one thought it'd end with their arrests.

Nice! I haven't seen a street takeover in person, but it would be damn irritating if I got caught trying to get through where one was going on.

These idiots that perform takeovers suck. At least some folks seem to do it in out of the way parking lots instead of on roads an intersections. I think the cops need a new tactic. Surround the intersection/road, deploy spike strips, and then have a cop run in to cause them to scatter. take out all of their tires.

I have seen something like it with bicycles. I think it's a group called critical mass or something like that. They loosely organize hundreds or thousands of riders (up to 1000-5000 wouldn't surprise me). They then ride from one place to another. I've seen a couple. In one instance, it was anarchy where for about an hour they flowed through and intersection that I could see from my apt not obeying the light and not letting cars go (although some did force their way through getting banged on by the riders). In another instance, there were cops along, and the cops would sit at an intersection, but then when the light turned red for the bikes, the cops would stop the riders so that was better.

I take that stretch of I-75 a few times a year and am always surprised at the number of exotics and Porsches I see.

The speed limit is 70 there and they don't allow much over that. It's hard to get used to that...here we can go 80 or 85 without getting pulled over.

Absolutely. They are banding together and forming clubs, I think.

I drove that stretch twice back in the early 90s (Tampa to Key West and back). I remember in aligator alley pulling out and passing 8-12 cars at a time (in a 4dr dodge omni with an 80hp motor) at 90. When we got to Key West, my buddy and myself still heard the little motor screaming along at 4k.

My assumption is that it's a bunch of young Internet social media stars, drug dealers, and folks that inherited money. Yeah, more dollars than sense for sure.
