My lawyer buddy who is now dead but was probably one of the smartest people I ever knew had a couple I still remember:
He said “he had to kill what he eats” meaning don’t produce don’t make money…which I adopted as I was on commission my entire career. Also said “he was entering his dotage” as he was getting older. He had an unbelievable vocabulary and I would often have to ask him to dumb it down for me. |
Friends and I went to Lithia, FL, for a bougie-county lunch at the White Oak Cottage. The ladies at the table over had the most interesting looking drinks so I asked, "May I inquire what y'all are embibin'?
They sat there, looking at me like three monkeys doing math. Suddenly I realized they didn't speak Southern so I rephrased it. I asked, "What are youse guys drinking?" They got all excited and began describing their beverages. |
