Showing Off My Fence I Built & Seeking Recommendations on Sealers

I built a new side fence last week which enlarges my small back yard by 5' and is a little taller than the old crumbling fence. I'm just showing off my handywork here but also asking for recommendations for a good sealer. I've used Penofin in the past, but it doesn't seem to hold up as well as I would like.

This is a "good neighbor" fence as it looks the exact same on both sides with the fence pickets overlapping 1.5" over one another. I'll be adding railroad ties along the sidewalk to create a short retaining planter and then planting shrubs. I will also remove the old driveway on the left side and replace with dirt - this hasn't been in use for about 50 years. After this, I will build a fence on the other side of the yard and then the back side so it will all be the same.

Looks great!
Cedar? If you seal it once, you'll be back every couple of years to re-seal. I left mine un-sealed, but some people don't like the grey look. I would seal it before assembly.
Why didn't you go up against the sidewalk like next door?

Redwood. I didn't go all the way to the sidewalk because of the elevation change and I want this to be level with the remaining backyard fence. Also, I plan to plant along the outside of the fence.

Looks great. I use Messmers UV plus on exterior wood. Check for procedure for new wood.

That is NICE. I got nothing on what sealer...

Again, I'm going to recommend the following.

What Marv says.

TWP is good, so is CWF (made by Flood). Run, don't walk, from Thompsons.

Thanks for the recommendations. I looked up the products and read the instructions and it looks like I don't have to do anything for a few months - need to let the wood age a bit. This gives me time to get the rest of the fences built.

This place is slipping . No mention of baby poo yellow fence paint .
Fence looks great by the way !!

Gorgeous fence, Vern! Excellent craftsmanship, from what I can see, too!

Good idea to build it outside the old one. I may steal that idea as one of mine is in poor condition right now.

Can't help on your question but I see some replies which hopefully will help.

Thanks for sharing!

PS - Is that a Kumquat tree? :)

Also, regarding the shrub planting on the outside, whenever you get to it, Indian Hawthorn is a very durable and low maintenance low in height shrub. They aren't known for their flowers but they do bloom in the spring.

Rhaphiolepsis indica (botanical name) or just Indian Hawthorn - in a 3 gallon size is what I usually use. Try to buy from a wholesale nursery. Retail pricing on plants is crazy right now!

There are of course other plant choices but if you want durability and don't want something that grows too high, this would be a good choice.

"Showing Off" would not be the best phrase to use, maybe "Bespoke Invitation To Private Viewing."

The driveway section doesn't look like it moves. Sliding gate later on?
That would be a nice feature to keep. For a future selling point. Or when uncle frank's RV transmission needs a swap.
It's easier to have than apply for city permit.

Or is the plan to break up the concrete and permanently naturalize?

It's a Myer Lemon and they are fantastic.

That is the original driveway that led to the rear of the garage. There is now a driveway at the front of the house and the rear driveway just leads into the small backyard. I struggled with this but ultimately decided to lose the gate. I plan to break up the concrete and replace with dirt. Since this is a small backyard and I am making this into a short-term rental, I will be creating a "patio backyard" on the other side of the fence. I will build up the dirt to match the rest of the area and plant shrubbery. There is also plenty of street parking as this is a corner lot and the street that this fence is on is very quiet and virtually no cars.

I've had Indian Hawthorn before and that is a possibility here. I currently will be planting Nandina (heavenly bamboo) on the outside of the fence (about 6' apart), but I'm looking for ideas to plant in-between. The inside of the fence will be Camelias as they do fantastic here in Fresno and are super low maintenance and look beautiful. This is the north side of the house so fairly shady area.

I'm a fan of Nandina but.....they do have a tendency to encroach - or spread by rhizome - almost like the real Bamboo. :)

Check out Green Island Ficus.....
