Hand Made Wooden Desk

Seen in a local consignment shop. Built in early 1980s. I’m entranced.

Really nice. Someone has a lot of time in that desk. The roll down Tambour door is a work of art in itself. I made a Tambour door once ro hide a microwave in cabinet I built. A lot of labor involved and it wasn't nearly as fancy as his

Including the chair? The chair is spectacular. The artist is beyond talented. Brilliant design and steam bent. $6400. equates to far less than minimum wage earned on the project. It was a labor of love of his art

Interesting in that it was inspired by a butter churn. Not really a tambour front. I would describe it as a clamshell opening. I agree. Impressive workmanship.

Best

Yes, including the chair.

I am trying to figure out where it could go in my house.

There is a subtle mechanism that pushes the moving part of the “drum” up when it is lifted, to clear and overlap the fixed part.

You should remodel your kitchen; make it the centerpiece! (JK, John!!!)
That price is a steal. At least, I think it is.
I'll bet the materials alone would cost 2 grand or more if you wanted to reproduce that these days.

Trivia question: anyone know which US President who would've been capable of pulling off such a woodworking project? (he actually had the skills)

I looked it up and was pleasantly surprised. He also painted and wrote poetry.

Outstanding artisan woodworking. Someone has an incredible eye and mad skills that seem to be inspired by Sam Malouf.

And knew how to grow Peanuts!
But as prez he made the 55mph speed limit law because of the fake gas shortage.
I remember watching him speak from the White House wearing a sweater because of the fake energy crisis. Really?! the leader of the free world turned his heat off?
