Skip paint, go stainless! Wait, that idea is flopping like a whale dropped from a helicopter.

Just bought my cybertruck. It is amazing to drive! Say what you want but it is a remarkable piece of engineering.

By the way:

Tesla is working on a process to inject paint directly into the body panels. Kind of a cool idea.

Paint injection

It's not just paint, interiors too.

I recently had the seats reupholstered in my '84 Carrera. I asked the owner of the shop that installed the seat covers what he thought of the quality of the leather (from World Upholstery) and I was glad to hear that he felt the leather was of high quality and that he's worked with World Upholstery products many times over the years.

He went on to express his disappointment in late model cars and how the quality of fabrics (leather, vinyl, etc) has really gone down even on high end vehicles. He stated the leather and vinyl today is thin and just doesn't hold up like it used to.

I went to a new Tesla owner event and test drove a CyberTruk. It really is an amazing vehicle but, c’mon, it’s kinda ugly and expensive. If price drops $10k, I’d probably get one too though.

The interior on my Tundra is this way as well.

Oh yeah man the plastic door panel on the drivers side is a mess.

I like the idea of thick single stage paint. More material but can be sanded and buffed till the cows come home. At home.

I wonder what salt water will do to the paint?

Supposedly they aren’t selling well, so that should happen pretty quick.

The Rivian Amazon delivery vans around here are not very old have serious paint issues. I'm assuming they were rushed off the line at ludicris speed.

You're lucky. My Taco dents if you sneeze on it.

Nah, that is a Tesla or F&F term. Not sure what Rivian calls it. Perhaps Balls to the walls?

I walked past a black and silver maybach last night and had to double back to admire the paint. Hood and roof were perfect - like looking at the surface of a telescope mirror.

Easy to get used to awful wavey paint and body work on todays plastic cars but then you see something nice and it really pops!

red 928 03-12-2025 12:10 PM

If I'm mad at the guy who owns a majority of the company stock, can I make up a bunch of stupid **** too?

Tervuren 03-13-2025 08:10 AM

The wavey is scratch protection and adds longevity.

Thin paint, that's for the smooth look you describe.

Touche, Captain.
Wait until the vandalism raises their insurance rates.

I openly laugh at the wankpanzer trucks. I still think Elon has an inside joke with someone that he can get the public to buy anything.
