well. I'm there.
thought I would update the team.
I did it. I hit my weight goal of 185lbs. I had to. (starting point was 217lbs) eating right, eating correct portions and eating balanced. no sugar, no alcohol, no processed white flour stuff. I told myself I was going to order a smash-burger when I hit 185 pounds. now, I kinda dont even crave it anymore. my red-meat appetite has atrophied. I auto wake up at 4:30 am daily, and I will dragass out of bed and strap on all my running gear for winter. I run 3 miles daily. it hit me about 10 days ago. a friend told me I look sloppy in my old clothing. so, I did the thing I hate the most. I went shopping for new pants. haha.out of habit I got all my old sizes. the salesperson trotted off and got me smaller ones. I have lost 4" in pant size. NUTS!! the REI 20% sale is tomorrow and will get another pair of DUER jeans. super comfy pant. bonus? my skin is clear!! no wierdness. my gut health is good. I sleep kickass. my resting HR is 58. my BP is kinda low. no more back pain unless I do something stupid. I can get off the floor without using my hands. (I thought this was easy - nope) I'll keep it up. jogging, eating right. not interested in weight loss. it was my fat ass liver spewing enzymes that got me worried. latest blood test show that is now better than it ever was in my history of taking that particular blood test. my doc was tempted to put me on some weight loss drug because she said it has an off-label use of helping the liver unscar itself. but she saw my success and waved it off....I didnt want it. gut problems are my kryptonite. |
Congrats. Getting off the sugar train is life changing. I had to buy all new clothes too after my change of intake. A small welcome trade off

Excellent. It is all about what/how you eat.

Way to go, Brother!
A few years ago I dropped from 210 to 175 at a rate of about 2 lbs. Per month. Just diet ( cutting out the nibblies), nothing else. My knees are no longer complaining. Yeah, the red meat thing. It seems like my digestion system doesn't handle it so well anymore. Not a problem, the wife has been a vegetarian since 1979. Keep up the good work! Best Les |
Congratulations!
Controlling my diet is the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. Quitting smoking in 1979 was easy compared to my attempts at dieting. Fortunately, my body likes a slightly overweight state. I can maintain 220 effortlessly. At 6'1" 220 isn't bad for a 75 year old. |
Well done. Try getting off salt too, which is probably more difficult.
|
Total rock star!!!
I cut out similar and dropped some. Not nearly as well as you. I may have more work ahead! |
Nice!
How old are you? (if I can ask) |
Salt is highly personal.
Much of why sodium is demonized doesn't have to do with salt itself but salt's use in packaged foods that are decaying on the shelf and not providing adequate nutrition. Salt itself is very important, and someone with a healthy diet and lifestyle might want to add more in rather than remove it. Quote:

How tall (short) are you?
Muscle or flab? Great job either way. |
Wow, great result and very inspirational. I am a type 1 diabetic and have put on roughly 15 lbs over the 8 years since diagnosis. It's hard to lose weight as a type 1, but recently I've been eating less carbs, especially in the morning, working to lower my insulin intake and upped the exercise. Mostly rowing machine, walking, cycling (indoors in winter) and some strength training. My wife told me I looked leaner recently and sure enough, I've dropped 5 lbs. We enjoy wine, but that needs to be cut back as well. Hearing stories like yours is really motivational. Keep it up!

Congrats, that’s awesome! I need to go on a similar journey, I’ve started eating better and generally cut out food based carbs and sugar but I need to cut back on the alcohol. That’s definitely my weakness, I can resist food temptations. I also HATE running.
|
The sugar addiction lasted less than a week for me. I went from 256 to 180 in 4 months. It took me a year to realize I can just bend over and tie my shoes effortlessly. I would hold my breath and prepare to bend over and, oh yeah it's easy now. Ha ha, so worth it in so many ways. And coincidentally, my motorcycle seemed to get faster at the same time!
|
Well done!
Changes like that are not easy but sooo worth it in the long run. (all puns intended) I've never been a runner, except down hill where I could really extend my stride and feel more "natural". Its critical to find something physical you enjoy and consistently do it, for me it's an elliptical on rainy days, walking, hiking or bicycling on dry days plus weights, core work and a bit of yoga. Just back from about 3 weeks in Hawaii, we got in an average of 6 miles a day on foot, I was not snacking or eating as many sweets, had smaller dinners and I dropped 8 lbs that needed to go. 6' 4" and 215 is not too bad. I now need to continue with minimal sweet snacks and stay just as active- I'd like to be at 190-200 and not carry the bit of extra on my stomach. More muscle/less fat! Snacking on fruit or nuts instead of sweets is my plan. |

Excellent work

Way to go, Cliff! Inspiring! :)

I'm super happy for you, Cliff. You've found the way of life as it should be. I sort of went the same route several years ago, but in a slower way. I've dropped 15 lbs. in the past couple of years (177 to 162), but I have to confess that at my age (82), part of it is unfortunately muscle loss with age. I can still make it up Stonewall, a local hike at a state park, without stopping. Keep it up. You're doing it the way it should be done, and it can only pay off as years go by.

Congratulations, thats a large drop in weight. Treat yourself to a doughnut, not really, possibly sone new fishing lures.
