I need a hat ... Reynolds Wrap mebbe.
Why is a number that calls me regularly (not in my contact list... a lot aren't) now appearing with a "real name" ... it started last Saturday. Nothing I'm aware of has changed .... certainly not on that phone. An Iphone on the AT&T network... I'm on T-Mobile (excellent imo), and thought for sure it was bogus/scam the first time.... so I didn't answer :D.
The "name" being display .... ALL YER DATA ARE BELONG TO US! Es no bueno ... muy mal :( |
Are you worried that if you answer, they will steal your thoughts? Did you get the Covid shot? Perhaps it’s just the ‘borg’ doing ‘borg things’.
Resistance is futile… |
You can admit it we understand ............... you had an anal probing didn't you :D
|
I get calls on a regular basis from little towns in Oklahoma I have never heard of. I am sure I don't know anyone in Slap-out, Nowata or Hominy. If they don't leave a message, I just delete them. I sure don't bother to answer.
On occasion I am waiting for a call back from a doctors office and they have lots of phone lines that don't match to the main line. So I displays as just a area code 405, so I answer it. If it isn't the doctors office it is an annoying "do you want to sell your house" call. Yea, 5 million will get me to sell it, but that is grossly overpriced. Like selling my 85 911, 1 million bucks takes it. The El Camino is just 500K. Not for sale prices. |
caller id is well known to be spoofable

If you "shared" the contact in messages sometimes it will assign the name to an incoming call.
I asked my realtor for a handyman recommendation and when the guy called me his name popped up on the call even though I had never spoken to him. |

I can stop calling your mom.
Problem solved. :) |

Please continue to answer calls from dad tho' .... it's really mom calling :D |
I’ll text some numbers and I’ll automatically populate their first and last name.

I can't see anyone nefarious setting their spoofed caller ID to "all yer data are belong to us". I can only see that in two cases: 1) some IT guy did it to mess with you 2) some IT guy is pranking a buddy to screw with them. |
I'm just paranoid that it will happen to my number... if KC911 isn't in yer contact list ... I just don't want "Jerry Seinfield" to suddenly appear :D

I digressed... It was dad's real name that was showing... sorry. One old IT BMW guy could have though ;) |
IPhones can identify incoming calls by checking the caller's number against lists from Apple Business Connect, your carrier, or third-party call identification apps.
: You can access these features by going to Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification. |
Mom's Iphone is making the call ... where/why is dad's name showing up on my phone (and I assume others too) now?
That IS the problem/issue ... menolikey. |

I just don't know where "they" connected dad's name to this cell phone number and how? Data mining old land line records from decades ago... nah... but who knows? I do nose it stinks :(
I will use the Heavy Duty Reynolds Wrap too :D |
My cell phone will be located at the local Tesla dealer next to beautimous cybertrucks several times each week now.
Does that now matter :D? It's next to Lowes .... I just giggle :) |
