Way back in college, I had a '59 100-6 for a few years.....Loved the 'lectric overdrive. BUT, all the typical Lucas/Brit issues made it less than reliable.........

When I had the TR6 and lived in Niceville, Florida, a next-door neighbor had a British Racing Green Austin Healey, and it was the real deal. His car had wire wheels, and I remember he came over one day asking me if I had a spare "knock-off" hub or hammer or something like that. I was like, uh, my car doesn't have "knock-offs." I always admired his car.

I think the two-seater (BN-7) is much better looking than the four-seater (BT-7). The really rare (and valuable) model would a two-seater with the three-carb set up. It was only available in 1962 as I remember, after which they switched back to the two SU's, only with a larger throttle bore than pre-1962. If you can source the factory fiber glass hardtop, that's a plus. Make sure the side curtains come with the car.
Otherwise the cars run like a tank once you get them right. They tended to exhibit low oil pressure because the rocker arm mount pipe tended to wear rather quickly. An easy fix not to be confused with worn bearings. I spoke with Joe Huffaker back in the day when he ran the west coast race program for BMC. They had the 130 horse motor making 200 in race trim but had to replace the timing chain and sprocket after each race because the long crankshaft flexed so much, but they were running the thing at 7000 RPM. Anyway, I had a great time with a 1955 100-4 with a louvered aluminum hood, probably with the uprated LM cylinder head, and then later a 1960 3000. Still miss both those cars. |

Mostly trying to figure out how to value them based on year and model.
At the moment, I’m fixated on 100-6 |
