Bump ... more bots viewing here in OT :)...

A 2017 MacanS .... can't even open the rear hatch ... totally dead :(. How do you even access the battery?

I'll put a charger on the access points under the front hood later....

Any advice for the stoopid is most welcome :D

Thanks!

KFC911 04-04-2025 04:57 AM

Showed 1.7 volts (the hood light did come on :)) .... now charging @ 3.9....

Hoping ;)

Crap .... old/good DieHard charger & starter just started flashing 8 8 8 ... or something.... no bueno :(

Now how do I even get the rear hatch open to access the battery?

Anybody wanna Macan .... ran fine three months ago .... once :D

KFC911 04-04-2025 05:14 AM

Put the charger on 40A ... climbed to 7-7.1 then rapidly up to 13 ... 14, 15, 16...

Switced back to 2A .... showing 5

Switched to 10A ... now 7.1

????

I just go get a battery and start fresh .... if I could access the battery :(

7.3 now....

Climbed to 7.5 then started flashing 8.8.8

I'm calling the battery toast....

Now what ???

You can always fold down the rear seats , pull out the spare tire cover, and spare and access the battery through there if you cant get the boot open any other way .
It will test your flexibility a bit but do able

I replaced the battery in my wife's 2017 Macan. You will need a OBD2 computer device to input the new battery info. The car wants a serial number, part number, AMP hours, and battery type, either glass mat or wet cell.

For the serial number I just changed the last digit of the old one, I used the same part number, and I put in a new Interstate glass mat battery with 2 more amp hours.

Try to use another car with jumper cables to get enough power to operate the rear hatch. The battery is buried under the spare. Easy enough to get to with the hatch open.

I called our dealership on the price of a new battery. They wanted just over $700. I decided to go to Interstate and it was $270 as I remember. For that savings I bought an Autel OBD2 device that will work on about every car on the planet. It is great to reset the computer after an oil change.

Thanks guys! I'll try to get enough juice to open the hatch ... or get limber ;).

I have a lot to learn ... get a new battery, OBD2 reader, etc.

It's not like my Carrera :D

I'll be back .... you have been warned ;)

Rennlist is honestly a better resource for the newer stuff like the Macan. I’ve been doing some research, I may buy my daughter one this summer.

Yea, I put the exact same battery in my 911 as the Macan. The battery is a tight fit in the 911, but no computer needed. I recently replaced the alternator in my 911, and "while I am in there" had the fan and housing cerecoated. The battery was disconnected for several weeks. I got it back together, hoked up the battery, and I had to reset the clock which was a twist of thumb and finger. Phew, all back to normal.

I thought about trying to start her just using the Diehard Charger/Starter, but figured a battery that low was futile.

I'll try that too later.... thanks!

I haven't been on Rennlist in years .... found my 911 there... thanks!

^^^ If that doesn't work...give me a call and I'll come down and we'll push-start that B.
I'll steer. :D

KFC911 04-04-2025 01:58 PM

^^^ Bring beer and a box for some snappers .... a BIGLY box.

I will hold yer beer ...

And mine :)

Is the Autel scanner the best if only used for a Macan... or something with less features.

Do you put the Macan on your lift Glen?

Nevermind :D!

Do you ;)?

stevej37 04-04-2025 02:09 PM

^^^ I wouldn't be able to bring snappers back....unless the airlines would accept them as 'companions' or 'service animals' :)

You may need to rest the computer. If you can get enough voltage while it is on charge. Lock the doors with the remote. Unlock the doors and place the key in the ignition but do NOT try and start it. Leave the key in the ignition for 60 seconds. Remove the key and get out close the door. Lock and unlock the car. Now try the tailgate.
Good luck

KFC911 04-05-2025 02:51 AM

Thank you! One more attempt later ... my charger/starter in "start mode" and attempt to start.

I was suprised the front hood light came on .... that's the first time "this newbie" had opened it and seen what's there :D

I thought I left the doors locked before (I'm quite sure ... but mebbe not ;)) ... but they weren't ... neither fob does squat ... nada ... inside .... even less.

More later....

It's early still .... which key?

And where :D?

That hidden key that I couldn't find on Day 1 .... to get the owner's manual out in order to even start her ;)

That one?

KFC911 04-06-2025 09:11 AM

Thanks guys ... woke her up enough to get the rear open ... barely. I'm not even gonna try to start her.... Of course I didn't take a torx in order to take a peek at the battery.
