Anyone have any favorite 4 cylinders?
Lotus 7 Lotus Elise I've never driven any sport 4 from Japan. Something I'd like to do someday. A hot rod '99 Civic R could be a blast. My 944's are porky compared to the above. Still make good noises. I know I fit in the Elise but the getting in and out part keeps me from going for ownership. Maybe with a removeable steering wheel. The Lotus 7, have seen an original in person. I cast /doubt that I'd be able to drive one. That pedal spacing, wow!

The one that's memorable for me is the Alfa Romeo, early '70s. That torquey twin cam has a mechanical sweetness that gets into your soul. The only other engine I've experienced that with is a BMW boxer twin on a motorcycle. The Honda S2000 motor was very nice, but it was more like a baby race car engine that you could ring out at high RPM. I've driven a lot of Integra twin cams up to GS-Rs, but not the Type R. Haven't driven a Lotus.

I've always had an affinity for the VW Type 1.

I have never been in a car with one or even seen one in person, but the Porsche 4 cam Carrera engines fascinate me.

Yeah, I'd love a Lotus 7 or one of the homages. I've seen one in person, but never had the opportunity to sit in one or drive one, but I'd give it a shot.
![]() I'd also love one of the Porsche 550s recreations. I've seen several in person. I've never had the opportunity to sit in or drive one. ![]() And while not a dream car, I have had 2 (3 if you count the wife's) miatas. I've had a '97 and an '04 Mazdaspeed. The wife had a '99. I'd love to have one of the new NDs. I was never much of a fan of the NC. One of the best Porsche mechanics in Houston just recently got a pair of 912s at a very good deal. I think one of the early 912s would be pretty cool.

Had an elise and a supercharged exige for many years there is a lot of character in the 2zz especially at cam change over.
Had a bunch of 4cyl sporty cars over the years. For shear impressive performance the 2.5l flat 5 turbo in my cayman gts wins I think. Pulls super hard up to it's 7500 rpm redline and makes for a legit fast car. |

Question- is this about favorite 4-cylinder engines or favorite cars with 4-cylinder engines?

Nd2 miata is a special car even if common. Id love to have another elise but no real room. Often thought about an nd2 which I could leave in my driveway. Needs a bit of suspension and a roll hoop and it's good

Any Honda 4 cyl with v-tech. The older ones with it are more fun, I feel.
