Door Kick Challenge
 

Anybody else hear about this? Happened recently to friends who live in a very nice neighborhood, apparently it’s a TikTok challenge that’s been ongoing for several years. As you would suggest from the name, kids go around kicking front doors while filming for social media then run away. In the case of my friends it happened while the parents were out of town and their 18 and 14 year old sons were at home. They ended up staying at a friends house because they were very justifiably freaked out, and the people actually came back and damaged the door worse later in the evening. Their doorbell camera picked up three masked young men but nothing meaningful, apparently it has been happening all over their area per local PD. Really lucky that nobody has been shot, this is beyond stupid. If/when they catch these guys they are on the hook for a lot of felonies, front doors are expensive. Yep, that's what I was thinking.

What needs to happen instead if that they need to do it at the wrong house where the owners actually catch them, take them into the house, and scare the piss and vinegar out of them (literally). Granted, I think that's probably illegal, but it seems like it would be good "medicine".

Or just made to disappear without a trace.

I think all of the above are possible, hence the concern from local PD.

Yeah, getting shot for this challenge seems FAR more likely than the guy that got shot in the mall being a dickwad, and that happened.

I would have the three kids kick in each of their parents doors, to let them know how it feels.

I had a kid ding dong ditch our house, and videoed the whole thing with our Blink camera. The camera is obvious and there’s a blue light when activated.

Kids must be really stupid nowadays.

The real b!tch for the victims is that a nice prehung front door with a side light and door glass is way more than just replacing a slab. Because my friends have an older house they will have to replace the entire door assembly, I think they were quoted about $7k.

My biggest fear would have been my parents finding out. I would have gotten a azz whooping beyond all azz whoopings.

Now you get kids answering back. The most severe punishment is being sent to their room with cable, internet, video games...

Yep ... then I would have had to mow many lawns to pay for the damages ... every single $.

We were just as stoopid as kids imo ... but damaging property like that ... nope! The kids prolly have no clue ... why would they ... they are clueless .. just like we were :(.

I am so tired of hearing about all of these stupid children challenges or pranks. The police need to identify these young thugs and arrest them, prosecute and lock them up.

A friend of the mine is a local high school principal and has talked to the local PD about this topic, apparently it’s a very high priority case because so many nice homes have been vandalized and they are very concerned that somebody is going to get shot. Unfortunately they are entering these neighborhoods on foot so the PD can’t find them via license plates, and they are masked and wearing all black. Eventually they’ll get caught because this is all about attention, they’ll brag to the wrong people and get turned in.

It’s like ding ding ditch? Nobody is getting a shot off unless you sleep by the door with your finger on the trigger. Come on!

Or you thinking: long range sniper shot as they run away and high five each other in the neighboring field?

My brother had a custom industrial door built and installed at his house. It isn’t getting kicked in. Steel door. Looks like ass, like it’s the back door in the alley of a Walmart. But it’s solid. It would take explosives to breach.

My guess is that there are or will be some that do it when folks aren't asleep. And it's unlikely, but eventually, factors will line up for something bad to happen. It's like a plane crash, it's not likely, but it happens.

One of the things that will probably be a contributing factor is the advent of video cameras that send alerts to cell phones. All you need is a guy that's got a spoon or shotspoon handy, and a doorbell camera, and a few kids that dilly dally before they get to kicking and end up being slower than the guy inside.

Someone is going to get hurt!

I agree, if someone has enough cameras that alert them in advance, they could easily be armed before the a-holes get to the front door. If you saw three guys in all black, hoods, and masks approaching your front door, what would you do? I sure as hell would quickly arm myself.

What if they actually kick the door in? It would get real if the owner was sleeping nearby.
