Art?
Is this any good? I think art is subjective, but I'm curious for expert opinions.

Yeah. It’s a good picture. Not a great picture.
I like it. |
Thank you.
|
I would think you get immense joy out of creating it. Doesn't matter what others think.
I like it too |
I like it. I would be proud to have painted it or to own it. I am no expert, but I do wish I was more artistic and could create stuff like that..
|
Fun to be able to make something like that. I desperately wanted to be good at drawing as a kid. Cartoons, cars (I'm working on design theft suit against Tesla with the cybertruck) and stuff like that. So darned hard to make something like that.
I'm envious. |
To be clear I did not paint this, I wanted thoughts about it.
|
It is far better art than many "modern art" pieces.
I just don't get Picasso's art from his latter years. Or the "art" of Jackson Pollock is just paint spills in my opinion. Yet they sell for huge money, but no to me. |
I'm not an expert. But I am looking at the best piece my buddy made that we kept from his estate as I type.
He was a talented amateur painter / sculptor. But not so talented as to have sold anything. We took many paintings to the dump. Gave a bunch away to reuse the canvas as well. It was sad. Had some nudie pics on 5x5 frames given for free in front of my house for fun too. With that perspective, I think the above painting isn't particularly good. Not that I could ever do anything as well. Sorry for my painful opinion. I hope it is worth MILLIONS! |
It'll be worth more (or less) when the artist croaks ;)
Better than I could do ... for sure! Good ... as good as an Otis Campbell mosaic ... there is real talent out there too :D |
Reality and the reflection, just what art is supposed to do, cool painting
|
Looks good....except the boat is sitting too high in the water.
My boat sits much lower...maybe the refreshment cooler is out in this painting. |
You can't even see any of the lines or the numbers!
|
what size is it?

I prefer to have original paintings in my house. Nothing expensive, just pleasing to the eye.
This is a painting by Jere Gebr. If you ever watched Rod Serling's "Night Gallery", the bumpers for "Wild Wild West" or the title cards from "The Sting" he painted all of those: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1744835603.jpg These are from another artist who worked at Universal Studios in the late 50's-70's doing artwork and signage. He was classically trained in Europe, Victor Czerkas: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1744836484.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1744836512.jpg And this was painted back in the 1920's by Arion Putnam who founded the Pasadena Art Society and was big in the California "Plein Air" movement: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1744836648.jpg Nice vintage oils and watercolors are able to be had at decent prices. The Gebr/Czerkas go for $500-800 and the Putnam is large and more collectable, probably valued around $25k. |
I really like it. But it's about what you like, and what you want to have on your wall.
I'd sure have it on my wall. |
Here's how I judge art:
Could I do it? If yes, then it's not art :D That is clearly a boat, so clearly better than I could do...so, yes, it's art. :) |
"I'm an artist too!"
Nervous seconds ticked by as Dixie stared at the painting, deciding how to respond. "My, they sure are happy!" Dixie exclaimed at last. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1744840137.jpg |
I think it depends on where you are going to hang it. In my house, I have a wall of various boat pictures so this would go great there - therefore, I like it.
