Will a mesh system give me better Wi-Fi outside of the house? I like to listen to my music in my Bluetooth headphone hearing protectors when I am mowing. It would also be nice if I could get a better signal out in my garage, which is about 30 feet away from the house. While I could possibly dig a trench and run a cable over to the garage. It would be nice if I could just get a better signal using a mesh system.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I ended up buying the Deco AEX5400 WiFi 6E and it seems to have solved all my problems. I placed the units (3 of them) 2nd floor, 1st floor, and Basement. I haven't had any problems since.

Thanks for all the advice - it worked.

I believe Bluetooth is different than wifi and has shorter range. However, the mesh expands your wifi depending on the placement (i.e., near a back door would extend to the backyard).

If you can place a node on a wall closest to the garage it should work, place another one in the garage it should be perfect. I just checked mine (Deco AX3000) through two interior walls and 8" solid concrete wall (not block) into garage with unit placed about 50' away and I could get decent signal.

That’s a good point, if your house has Ethernet and you can hardwire to the base station, you’ll get better speeds.

Or even more importantly, more consistent, reliable service.

Wifi has much more of a tendency to periodically disconnect. Wired connections are generally ROCK SOLID.

So if you've got a wifi connection that's 200+mb but disconnects 10x per day, or you've got a wired connection at 100mb that never disconnects, that's probably the one that you want.

Thanks for the info! I’m going to give it a try.

Tidybuoy: I need the wifi signal to reach my iPhone that I keep in my pocket while I am mowing. I only use the Bluetooth to go from the phone to the headphones.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned (didn't read every post) is that what the Tidybuoy describes, solid connection that periodically disconnects for a couple of seconds before reconnecting, is often an issue with the wifi drivers used by one of the devices or both or interoperability between them. It is entirely possible that the issue is due to thick walls, but it's also possible that one of the devices is using buggy drivers for the wifi or that the two devices don't play well together.

So make sure that if there's any sort of update that can be done to both devices (the router and the alarm) that the update is performed. Many/most wifi stability issues can be/are fixed from an update. It's also possible that it's a weak signal or interference (for instance from a wireless phone on a landline or a microwave or thick walls or metal in walls or whatever). Connecting via wire, while more inconvenient initially, is likely to resolve all of those issues.
