He'd been sick for a long time... May he now rest in peace.

He was a good and humble man. Hopefully the next Pope will share his ideas of how the Church should be run. Rest in Peace

I know nothing about the Pope, but may he rest in peace.

It’s a terrible loss as well as somewhat of a personal loss for my family. My brother ran Catholic Relief Services for most of the world at the time of his retirement two years ago and is now on the board of the Jesuit Foundation for refugees, (JRS), with offices and lodging inside of the Vatican. He stays there twice a year for their meetings and the Pope was a friend to my brother, (and vice versa), he was the first Pope to ever really care deeply about refugees and immigrants in my brother’s career. Pope Francis was of course the first Jesuit Pope.
Nearly everyone in my family has Francis or Frances in their name; my GF/uncle/cousin/me/my sister/other cousins/etc. He chose that name for his Papal name, he was our guy. Awful shame what he had to experience on the last day of his life, (and Easter!), but what a life well lived. RIP, indeed. Last edited by speeder; 04-21-2025 at 10:35 AM.. |

I just happened to chat with my niece ... we're not Catholic, but she attended the Easter Service in her last year of college 25 years ago... one in a million folks she said.
He was a good man ... and it showed. He was knocking on heaven's door for 2 months, advised not to do the service, he did so and went directly to see St. Peter at the gate ... held wide open ![]() Condolences to those who it hits more personally... but I think he's happy resting... RIP. Last edited by KFC911; 04-21-2025 at 11:18 AM.. |

I liked Francis more than John Paul II. He spoke the gospel truth to those amoral heads of state who tried to gain favor with him. May his memory be a blessing.

When I say black smoke is coming out of the chimney, I don't mean they are cremating him already, I mean it's a traditional way to say he's died. Then white smoke coming out of the chimney means a new one has been chosen.
I hope they chose a bit newer one this time. They don't last very long. |

I've heard good things about Conclave. Seems appropriate right now.
