I appreciate you guys

So much info shared here from vaccines for pneumonia to which foreign SUV will break the bank post warranty to why xyz is the best for a particular government post. And the best of you don't carry disagreements from one front to the other. And then you see encouragement/support after personal losses and challenges and advice for our kids careers...just a great, great place.

To go from pretty vehement disagreement on a major public figure in PARF to sharing info and tips on which SUV to buy with zero carryover of that disagreement....it is refreshing and great to be a part of.

So my thanks to ALL of you for participating and I hope i'm not the only learning as much about the human ability to disagree and get along as i am cars and politics.

Wayne you done a good thing here.

I like you too but that's only because you're an Influencer and I'm easily influenced.

Seriously though, there's some pretty good stuff tossed around here by some pretty good people.

berettafan 04-23-2025 08:56 AM

Haha cab it's a burden!

It’s why I came back after a 5 year hiatus!

Honestly it’s a great example of what social media CAN be. We may not always agree, we may sometimes argue, but that’s ok. Ultimately we agree on more than we disagree on. Also I haven’t found another site where I learn as much from the content and the members. It’s really unique in that way.

What I really like is that we have a common “link” of sorts, but also a great depth of individual knowledge that everyone freely shares.

I would ask about a topic here first even if I know of another forum that specializes in the stuff I want to know about because I know that it will be delivered in a way that speaks to me.

masraum 04-23-2025 11:34 AM

yep, PPOT (and the other forums) rock for all of the reasons listed above.

Hell, we've saved a life, and mourned many losses.

And don't forget the spiritual bovine!!! Lol [emoji23]

Ms. Rocket is finally asking me to ask PPOT, for advice on things.

Happens here too. Somehow I let it slip that I got some advice from here, now she no longer thinks I'm a genius.

Beretta - thank you for the post. You speak for many of us.

I think one of the factors is that many, if not most of the regulars, aren't carried away by their own brilliance and are open to learning what others have to offer. That makes for a ready exchange of ideas.
Or maybe not.

Best

I see a lot of confirmation bias, much less so here than PARF. The demographics are not as diverse as some assert.

The confluence of abstracted thought
Not too expensive
But the best to be bought!

I enjoy the online company of my fellow Pelicans.
I do find it upsetting when I go to PARF and see how some disrespect each other though.

fanaudical 04-25-2025 07:08 AM

Great starting post - thanks for expressing that sentiment. I've learned a lot from this forum and sometimes feel guilty that I don't contribute enough back. There certainly is a great group of people here. I appreciate the breadth of knowledge and wide perspective on social and political issues. I've had the privilege of meeting some of you in person and that's always been a good experience.

And there's a ton of confirmation bias everywhere - it has become, unfortunately, human nature across the entire planet...

But they instantly pull together for a fallen or ill pelican.

DWBOX2000 04-25-2025 08:51 AM

As one who only asks a lot of questions, I certainly am very thankful for the wisdom here.

vash 04-25-2025 09:13 AM

yea...things have changed.

there are some awesome people for sure. ones I would be honored to meet face to face. break bread, or pop a cork..whatever. there are those that I honestly wouldn't want to meet. hahah..

someone pops in and says, "prayers needed, my ___ is sick". there are some members that won't chime in at all. they are not here for that. ..but post up something like..ah, never mind.

some recent posts havent been our best selves for sure. that "if you cant say something nice..." thing is a dying thought pattern.

berettafan 04-25-2025 11:17 AM

I include PARF in my thanks and appreciation. Sometimes the contrast from animated and possibly rude discussion in PARF and a kind word on PPOT is the greatest example of why we can be so good here.

And considering our common bond here is Porsche ownership (past or present) it's honestly pretty darned remarkable just how high a % of folks here are good people (porcupines and all that).

When I see someone NOT carry a grudge against me, when I've surely earned one, I am supremely humbled and resolve myself to be a better person. This sort of thing happens all the time here. Quite often in PARF. Not excusing bad behavior but I'm so damned far from perfect that I shouldn't get the time of day from anyone. And yet I do. Hence my gratitude.
