Kohler CV740-0028 How do I order parts with no Serial Number??
My Hustler Super Z popped a gasket on the oil pan. The problem is, there's no sticker listing model and serial for the engine. I got the model from Hustler but they couldn't give me a serial number based off of my machine serial number.
From the reading I've done, there's a guide pin that oil actually passed through that is split. There's an updated guide pin which I plan to order and it's the same across Serial Numbers. The shaft seal is the same across SN's. The problem comes where I go to order the oil pan gasket. There are two choices and it's based on before SN... and after SN..... Only thing I can think of to do, other than order both, is to pull the pan and compare against pics. Any small engine gurus out there that might be able to offer guidance? I gotta get this stuff ordered and back on before the grass grows too tall. Thankfully I just mowed yesterday so I've got maybe three to four days before things start getting ugly. |
I would try to find somewhere with free returns and order both. I hate tearing into a project and having the wrong parts.

Amazon doesn't have both. If I could find a Stens replacement for each, I could order both and only have the cost of about one of the original Kohler seals in both.

Check out the diagrams here and if you still can’t get it figured out call their support number.

__________________________________________________ ______ Funny thing about this is, I was thinking, I'll just replace the engine since this one this one is getting old and uses a little oil through the mowing season. Then I saw the price for a replacement engine and fell back in love with this one! |
Ended up pulling the pan, taking a pic and ordering. It was pretty obvious once the pan was off which one I needed.
