The Orioles are back!
Yesterday, I saw one in a tree in my yard....no food out yet.
Today, I put out some grape jelly and within an hour that same bird was eating it. The pic is from last year. Two young ones on top waiting for the adult below on the feeder to drop jelly into their beaks. (I should have had the camera a little lower) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1746125646.jpg |
I heard an unfamiliar call yesterday and pulled up the Merlin app. It said it was coming from a Baltimore Oriole. I put some of our blackberry jelly out, and it came down for a snack within a few minutes. Got my feeder out now, but all I have is good homemade blackberry jelly, which is pretty low in sugar. I'll get some Welche's grape jelly tomorrow. It's really sugary and they love it.

^^^ Yes..they have a different call..and it's loud.
I searched for the arrival time in MI and it said 'end of April or May'.....right on time.:) . |
The Rose Breasted Grossbeaks are coming through now too. They don't hang around as long as the Orioles.
