Speedway Racing
Glad to see the sport having a resurgence.
Goes with my mantra of brakes being overrated. The smell, noise & action is great stuff. The Harley folks come for Harley night, take your street or TT bike and race the oval. I mentioned a BSA or Triumph bike maybe being competitive too and I got the stink eye. 2 big differences from 50 years ago; The girl riders got the biggest cheers, back then none existed. The "wave" for the crowd in the stand is now done with your cellphone light. |
When we lived in upstate NY we had a speedway track about 20 minutes away . We used to go quite often , a rowdy crowd for sure .

OC fairgrounds in the 70s with MC Larry Huffman. More Beer! he would yell.
Bud played the young son on Father knows best was racing too. I liked Bruce Flanders too but didn't hear him at Speedway. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dfT06RVAYG4?si=s7VUDHCIFZZW74aN" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I may be wrong but weren't most of the speedway bikes made by Jawa ?

Back in the 1970's ESPN showed Speedway a lot and if memory serves, Bruce Penhall was so popular that he became a cast member on 'Chips' with Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox?
