Have you looked forward to a movie and was disappointed?

I was so hoping Nosferatu was going to be terrifying and keep me at the edge of my seat. I couldn’t see it at the movies because of schedules so I was excited when it became available to stream via Peacock. Man, that movie was boring and not the least bit scary. I’m a big fan of vampire flicks. What a letdown.

And what is it that all series type shows de-evolve into soap operas? I have seen many many outstanding shows. Get excited. And then the intensity just falls off and plot lines go to soap!

I thought the one from 1922 was really good. Albeit, not scary compared to today’s standards, I’m willing to bet it gave a lot of people nightmares in its hay day .

  • Fall Guy - This should have been great, but it wasn't. I couldn't even finish it.
  • Top Gun Maverick - Star Wars with F16s. "We didn't need no stinkin' script!"
  • Bike Riders - Another I couldn't finish. This one needed a story, and a script.

Have you seen Shadow of the Vampire with Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich? What did you think of that one?

And yes, I've wanted to see movies and then been disappointed many, many times. And then occasionally I watch something without much interest and end up being blown away.

I went to a theater to watch that and walked out before the halfway point.

Got my money back.

Don't remember what film, but it was supposed to be a great comedy.
Got to the theatre, bought my ticket just as the previous showing was over.

Everybody exiting had a dead-pan, blank expression as if somebody just killed their puppy.

Asked for a refund. "Why?"
Not a single person that just saw it had a smile.
"Huh. No problem. Here ya go."

Covid broke me of my movie habit. last movie I saw was King Kong..and that is because my BIL rented the theater, and we sat very very far apart.

2020? so, at home streaming. if it sucks, I just shut it off.

High school. Some movies with Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason. The previews looked funny. Every funny line in the movie was in the previews, and some were only funny because of how they were edited. My buddy got a nice nap. Unfortunately I was awake the whole time.

Last movie I saw with my son. We talked about it quite a bit afterwards. Fond memory. We both liked Get Out best from that director. That was better than anticipated.

A couple that come to mind;

"Inside Llewelyn Davis" by the Coen brothers. I want to be overwhelmed by Coen brothers movies. This one had the opposite effect.

"Elvis" with Tom Hanks and Austin Butler. I'm apparently not the audience for this glitzy, fast-cut, chopped up mess. I was hoping for more traditional storytelling weighted towards the story of Col. Parker.

Lets not finish on a bummer, though. A movie I looked forward to and loved was the Coen's remake of "True Grit". What a masterpiece. I'll watch it anytime it's on.

('True Grit' jogged my memory - a movie I had zero expectations for that's now one of my favorites is 'Hell or High Water' with Jeff Bridges)

Have not been to a theater for a movie in 30+ years. Put it this way, cell phones were not a thing the last time sat with the great unwashed.

Movies I look forward to? Ones I already love and watch again after 5-10 years. Being There, with Petter Sellers, The Great Escape and a number of other McQueen offerings. Outlaw Josey Wales, any Spaghetti western with Clint, Tree Lounge written, directed and staring Steve Buscemi is really a great mostly unknown film, along with Country Man, an outstanding soundtrack.

Greyhound was probably the biggest disappointment in recent memory.

Other ‘well that sucked’ flicks-
Return of the Jedi (maybe biggest ever)
Every Harry Potter after the second or third.
Rush Hour 3
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill series
Karate Kid 2
