Recognized as a pipeline to a R-1 institution (that other school in town.... :D )

While I've been out of the direct academic support role for over 6 years, still kinda cool to see the recognition knowing that I had a part to play in it

Very cool. One of only 2 in the state!

Totally open admission policy, etc. plus a touch of the typical educational liberalism. Fortunately, it is only addressed as far as personal interactions go, not classroom content (other than the few courses where it is actually relevant)

Santa Fe College is one of the first institutions in the country to be designated an “Opportunity College” for its ability to serve diverse student populations .

The new Carnegie Classifications of Institutions on Higher Education are “the biggest update” to its framework since it was established in 1973. While past classifications often favored large, research-intensive universities, the 2025 revisions include indicators like student demographics — including race, ethnicity and Pell Grant status

According to Carnegie, 41% of Santa Fe’s undergraduate population are underrepresented minorities. Thirty-two percent of Santa Fe students are Pell Grant recipients,
Congrats for being part of an institution that has been rewarded for "affirmative action

We have open admissions - there is no filtering for race, gender id, etc. And we mostly do geneds that get you an AA degree where the credits are all accepted at UF and other state universities, or vocational/technical training on business, programming, networking, etc plus all of our health science stuff (nursing, radiology/nuke med tech, respiratory, cardiovascular, dental, etc) and traditional votech certificate programs (welding, automotive, ac/refrigeration, plumbing, electrician, etc) that gets people good paying jobs all over. Oh, and one of three teaching zoos in the country.

Not sure how local demographics, being affordable, and offering a product people want make it affirmative action....
