Asking for help to help out a friend
I need the collectives help in helping a friend determine what would be a fair value for his 911.
It's a '67 S. He's had it a number of years now (I'm not sure how many) and it's been off the road for a lot of them. I have a PDF doc that describes the car at the time he bought it from my brother. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1747755223.JPG He's trying to figure out how much it's worth as he's getting ready to sell it. He's not Porsche savy and I've been out of them for too long to tell him what it may be worth. His research has shown him prices all over the map as far as prices for '67S's. I don't have any current pictures to show you. Thanks for any help you can lend me (and him). |
Why not put it on BaT? More likely to be surprised in a good way than not, I would think.
|
That's what I would do if it were mine, but he's had some medical issues of late and can't handle dealing with all that that entails.
|
Where is the car located?
|
Kc mo.
|
Here's a pic of the car when my brother had it on the track at Riverside.
It's had body pieces added since then obviously. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1747757380.JPG |
I'd ask the same question in this forum
https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-marketplace-discussion/ |
I sold my car using a broker that deals exclusively with BaT. (avant-garde) It cost a few percent off the top, but I didn't have to lift a finger, and I believe I pocketed more money in the end than if I'd have tried to sell the car locally or on Pelican.
Is there a similar service in KC Mo.? |
Done.

I suspect value estimates are going to cover a wide range. First question might be about the rust situation- if it had the front suspension pan replaced for rust, there's probably more. Does it run? What does it need? How many miles? Is there a COA or documentation on the build? And of course, photos.

Sorry to be the bummer. The non S engine takes away a large chunk of the value. Case is not correct nor the specs.
Having said that, I sold my Euro 68S (there were no S in the USA in 68) which was a matching numbers rally specd car from the factory turned into a road racer for $75 in 2018. Mine had no interior, fiber lids and doors (read could be and was returned to original spec) |
He knows it's not a perfect 'S'.
Having driven a 'stock' engined S, I think the specs on this engine make it a lot more usable on the street. I don't think he's looking to sell it as a restoration candidate, more a hot rod with a good starting point. |

Advertise it for 70k and sell it for 60-65k .

Member techweenie, who is in So Cal has a side business as I recall helping folks find and/or sell 911's. I might reach out to him specifically. He might see your post in the Market Place Forum, but he does not frequent there as often as he once did.
|
I have been talking to Avant Garde (911r on BAT) about them handling my 356. It is 10% plus a $1,500 listing fee. They do a nice job and I can see a car getting the commission back. Trouble is, they want the reserve to be fairly low or no reserve. You'd pay to ship it to them as well.
|
Side comment here. I don't have permission from the Boss Lady nor a free garage stall but DAMN. What a killer ride. I personally would LOVE a car like this. And, if I love it, others will too.

Here's the listing when Kent posted it on the EarlyS. Kent should be able to come up with a pretty good number, and/or you should be able to as well.... Has it been corner balanced? (ha ha). BTW, that SC you had was a stunning color, not many of those around. I remember seeing it at Kents place about 25 years ago.

That offer goes for you as well, Scott. And anyone else who needs help selling a Porsche. :)
|
I second Techweenie. He helped me sell my ‘70S. He found a good buyer and was very candid with me about the condition of my car and the marketplace. Recommended.

Yeah, this car has been around for a while. My friend bought it way back in '92 I think it was or maybe '93. I can remember helping him ferry it back to MO, but he never offered to let me drive it on that trip. It never made it back to CA in 2015. I doubt it has been corner balanced. =;>{) Yeah, the SC was pretty nice and Talbot is a rare color I'm finding while following sales on Bat. |

It’s not hard to understand the marketplace for any car these days. There are hundreds of comps on BaT for 911s of every age and condition, you can even track the changes in the market because many of them have been listed multiple times over periods of time. It’s not rocket science and none of the dealers and flippers have any special knowledge about it.
|
The hard part is I don't know the car all that well in its current state. I haven't seen pics of it for a lot of years.
I do know the engine is not your run-of-the mill 911 6-cyl. My brother doesn't build them that way. So working up a comp is not as easy as it seems. |
How far or near is the car from you? Perhaps take a drive to see the condition for yourself while talking with an old friend. Take some pics and post the car here for him. Lots of lookie loos that don't post, but are looking for cars.
|
The car is in Kansas City MO.
I'm in Orange County, CA. While I'd love to take a drive to look at the car and visit with an old friend that just isn't going to happen. |
