Last call at Cheers for Norm

Love the character Norm on Cheers.

"Actor George Wendt, who once played the ever-loyal Norm on "Cheers," died Tuesday morning at his home at age 76"

The joy he brought so many, he definitely deserved his own thread

He had a vacation home near me on Stony Lake.
There is a small restaurant there that he frequented. I never saw him, but friends said he was no different than any regular...very likeable and friendly to all.

I was 11 when Cheers first aired. When I saw "Norm" had passed, I had to post a thread. Such a great show with a great cast.

Cheers!

Here's a list of classic "Nommy" quotes. My favorite "It's a dog eat dog world Woody, and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear"

Cheers Norm. You've brought a lot of joy to a lot of people.

I loved Cheers, watched in in HS and College. I was thinking about it. I think the characters that really made the show weren't Sam, Diane, Kirsty Ally's character, or Frasier. I think the real stars of the show were Norm, Cliff, Coach, Carla, and later on Woody. The others were great, sure.

I'll have to go see if one of the streaming services that I have has it.

That's sad news. He used to jog at my high school track. My HS had an open campus (those were the days). He was a regular there, making laps around the track. He even bought an ad in the back of the yearbook.

Frasier was great, too. Looks like it streams on Paramount+, Pluto, Hulu, and philo.

I remember he used to hit the Feeding Frenzy special at the Hungry Heffer.

‘Hey Norm, what’s shakin’?

‘All four cheeks and a couple of chins, buddy!

I golfed with him once almost 30 years ago at a VFW hall out your way. He was there, and the Hanson Brothers were there. We golfed, drank beer and ate really raw steaks together. By together, I mean in the same VFW Hall at the same time...

I just read that his passing was 32 years to the day since the series finale of Cheers on May 20, 1993. Seems fitting.

berettafan 05-21-2025 07:08 AM

What a great show. One of the few 80's sit coms that was a worthy successor to the likes of MASH and Taxi.

The Synergizer 05-21-2025 07:20 AM

That's depressing.
Is there any good tv anymore?
