I have a like minded bud. Same age. We both hope to go down swinging. Over non alcoholic beer, for me. He drank real beer and made fun of me the entire time about it. We penciled out a fishing list. Amazon river, Mexican bass, Alaska halibut and salmon. We booked 14 months out to get the best tides. we are dragging a gang of friends w us. We catch halibut and then fly into a salmon trip. Way away down the list will be a Mongolian Taimen trout! Haha. Or an Acension Island tuna. :).

You need to include Salmon in Scotland and fly fishing in Patagonia and New Zealand in the mix.

We did a 4 hour charter out for salmon in Ketchikan when our honeymoon cruise stopped there for a day... Not my style of fishing, but we all caught fish

For me? Siberia Taimen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hucho_taimen is the top spot. A guide I used in the past moved there last I heard and is hooking MONSTER fish on a fly rod.

Amazon sounds amazing.

I fished trout in Alaska and sort of missed the bite. Everyone I know kills it there.

I checked out rivers in New Zealand and did some research. It seems like few are far between but monsters if you get one. I drove past lots of rivers. It didn't motivate me to fish.

A S Florida trip to hit the canals and everglades with all of the invasives could be cool, not to mention the stuff that should be here....

I tried booking a trip into
Malaysia for giant snakeheads. The trip was costly. Outside my pay scale. It’s 21 days long minimum. Zero comforts. A showboat into the jungle for days sleeping on hammocks and feeding the mosquitoes. The trip in/out was the bulk of the costs. If I was rich and in my 20’s. Maybe. Looked like a scene out of Rambo movie

I thought it was fishing with a Kalashnikov. The new bow fishing.

Watch out for Taquan Air in Alaska... it didn't go too well for my uncle who was on the plane coming from a fishing lodge...luckily everyone made it out alive.

I have been too a lot of places in Malaysia for work, the size of snakes that are caught in the populated areas makes doing something like a fishing trip a no go!

Been to yakutat Alaska Silver salmon fishing and halibut fishing a few times…it is well worth the trip. We stayed at a great lodge with its own walk-in blast freezer, commercial vacum sealer and fish cleaning room. Split the trip up with eight guys and it’s not so bad. I highly recommend it.

That photo brings back memories.

I had occasion on a couple of different bush plane flights going to and coming from hunting camps in Alaska to have been flown over similar looking sites. Our pilot would receive a "mayday" call on the radio and divert to go find the hapless pilot and passenger(s) that had to put down somewhere out on the tundra. We were never able to land, but both times were able to visually verify exactly where they were and, more importantly, that everyone was o.k.

After several trips, I came away with the impression that many of these flying services serving more remote areas were out there for a reason. I think you're rolling the dice with any of them, to be honest.

A classmate from high school lost her dad on a flight in Alaska - but this was many years ago. Small plane - maybe Cessna(?) and they were running low on fuel and they crashed. Pilot and he both died.
