don't see this often...
First time I've seen a piebald deer in the wild... this is maybe 1/2 mile from my back door (was taking the youngest to school)

Wow! Very cool. I've seen a couple/few albino squirrels, but that's as close as I've come. I recently saw a picture of an all white moose. That was interesting.

Wow, very rare. Less than 1 one 500 which makes it much rarer than the piebald polar bear

I think it would be really cool to see one. That's one deer I wouldn't even consider raising my bow on if it walked by my stand.

"Piebald Deer Symbolism in Hunting Unlike the beliefs held by ancient Indian cultures, the sighting of a piebald deer in hunting culture can mean something entirely different. White deer have long been the subjects of hunting myth and legend. Just seeing a piebald deer could historically be a negative experience for a superstitious hunter. Some hunters would abandon their hunt immediately at the site of a piebald animal. Killing a piebald deer brings along a whole other set of myths and superstitions. Some hunters believe that killing a piebald buck brings a curse of bad hunting luck. Other myths are even more stark. In parts of Europe, for example, some believe that hunters who kill piebald or white deer will die within a year. There are old stories of hunters inadvertently killing a piebald buck and praying for forgiveness so they could continue on with their hunting careers. " |
My wife and I saw one just off of the highway a few miles from my house. They are rare, but I had never heard the myths of hunting one. White bison are very sacred to the native Americans.

I wouldn't shoot it because it's such a rare sighting that I'd want someone else to be able to enjoy it as well. The problem is, it would be my good friend that I hunt with seeing it and he'd drop it like a bad habit. Dude can't let anything walk by. I don't pheasant hunt even though we have a season because it's so rare that I see a pheasant in the wild.

Great pictures!
I have never seen one but would love to. We do have an old skunk here, Waddlesworth, who is now almost completely white. I say him a few days ago while out with the dogs, who are both aware of the power of spray:cool: |
We had one in our neighborhood about 25 years ago. Few year later there were some spotted, half/white deer, I assumed they were offspring.

That would be so cool to see! If I had a buddy that shot one ... his head would be mounted over a hunting lodge fireplace mantle in BFE :D
