Ever had an air tag track you ?

This is a new one for me . Over the last few weeks, maybe even longer, I get an occasional alert on my android phone , that it has detected a device tracking me . I googled it , and didnt really give it much thought. Just figured its another phishing thing, or trying to get me to load a new app
So, this week, I loaned my Macan to my new girl while I do some work on her car , and she called me last night to ask if I am tracking her .. She was kidding, but mentioned that her i phone decteced a tracking device and her phone showed her where she was tracked throughout the day . To the grocery store, hallmark store, and her other boyfriends house ..
So, I guess, there is an air tag somewhere in my Macan. Im not really concerned, but it does make me wonder . Weird thing is , I've had the car since Feb, and basically been dayling it since March, but only recently been getting this alert . Maybe they really are out to get me ?
Anybody here ever sucessfully located an air tag? I bought this car wrecked, and I have been all over it . I had most of the interior out, replacing all the air bags, and I have been underneath it quite a few times as well. I was not, however looking for an air tag at that time
I hear you can purchase locaters, or is there an app you are aware of ?

I had also considered this as a possible scenario . I bought the car 5 hours away , and crashed . I simply cannot imagine them coming for the car at this distance, but I suppose anythings possible
This is what full coverage insurance is for

The battery in those things only lasts about a year. Are you close to that time period?

Here is some info to locate them if they are attached to your car:

Listen for beeping

If an AirTag is separated from its owner for more than 8–24 hours, it will start beeping.
Search your car.
Check all areas of your car, including under seats, in compartments, and the trunk.

Use an iPhone
If you have an iPhone and are near your AirTag, you can use the Find My app to locate it:
Open the Find My app
Tap Items at the bottom of the screen
Tap the nearby AirTag
Tap Find
Follow the onscreen instructions to move closer to the AirTag

Use an Android device
If you have an Android device, you can download the Tracker Detect app from the Google Play Store:
Open the Tracker Detect app
Tap the Items tab at the bottom of your screen
If the AirTag is within range, it will appear as a blip on your digital map
If the app detects an AirTag for at least 10 minutes, you can play a sound to help find it
You can also receive notifications on your iPhone if an unknown AirTag is moving with you. To enable this feature, you need to have location services and Bluetooth turned on in your settings, and tracking notifications turned on in your notifications.

Also, if someone does not want the Airtag to emit the beep, the disk can be split in half (think of an Oreo cookie) and the speaker can be removed to eliminate it.

Yep, if it's only just recently that you've noticed, then someone stashed something on/in your car. You should find it. It's almost definitely for the purposes of something nefarious.

I suspect you've got what you need from DavidI's post, but here's a bit more info.

It's either the deadly Pittsburgh Macan theft cartel or one of the stable of brutally jealous girlfriends.

It's a lost air tag. Friends of family, family member, etc. If you are good at it you would know air tags are worthless for tracking given their warning.

T E M U has fifty stealth trackers for like three bucks

I just got my ride back from her last night . We are all road tripping in it tonight to grab a Peterbilt in the "D" .
She had my car all week and was showing me where all it had tracked her throughout the week. Hallmark store, hair dresser, Wal Mart, parents house, doctors, office, her other boyfriends house ...
Ill download that app and see if I can locate that little bugger this weekend . Ill put my 8 year old up to the task of locating it . Ive been over this car pretty thoroughly , but it could be under a seat ?
I had most of the interior out to replace air bags and spent a lot of time underneath replacing chassis components, and undertrays etd.. , didnt see aything in any easliy accessible spots.
Either that, or my next post will be asking for bail money, or how to get my gf and Macan back from the cartel.

I was dog sitting for a former foster dog and didn’t realize they had a tag on her and the battery got low and was beeping now and again including at 2:00 am, I had a heck of a time locating where the beep was coming from- I put a digital watch in the basement, checked the digital scale, charge my toothbrush in case it was that. Finally it beeped when the dog was right in front of me.

If you find it Fred, slip it down the back of the seat in a taxi.

LMAO! A dog with an airtag converted into an "annoyatron". I know a guy that pranked another guy at an old job with an annoyatron.

If anyone doesn't know what an annoyatron is, it's a small (the size of a quarter or 50¢ piece) circuit board that emits a noise periodically. The theory is that you hide one someplace and the noise is intermittent enough that the person has a hell of a time finding it and is driven crazy by the noise. Originally, I think it made a beep at a regular interval. Then a version came out where the interval of the beep was irregular. Then another version came out that made multiple noises and could be set to shuffle through the various noises at irregular time intervals.

I was driving on the interstate once and had an alert pop up on my phone. Someone in a nearby vehicle must have had one, because it lasted about 45 minutes and then was gone. There was a lot of traffic so I was near the same other vehicles for a while.

I have one on my dog, so the kids can see where he is from college.

You know what ?? So, last night , after she dropped it off, I stayed late at work . I put the Macan up on the lift, and changed the oil and had to get the AC working . Took me at least 6 tries with 3 different scanners, to finally get the Ac run in and break in procedure to execute. As much as I love Porsche, who in the wild wonderful world of West Virginia designs this stuff ??? Deiter, and Gunter are off the chain with technology , and trying to keep repairs within the network
Once I quit for the night and turned off the fans, compressor and shop lights, I heard a faint beeping . I tried to hone in on it, but was tired, and just wanted to get home .
Ill really pay attention to it tonight .Im spending the next 5 hours in that car, so We will find it !!!
It does make me think though. I recently did a bunch of work for some shady characters . My end was all on the up and up, but I know who these cats are. Who knows, maybe someone is watching me .
Im staying on the lake tonight and tomorrow night. If I find it , that air tag is going on a little tour of Lake Erie !

Way back when pagers were normal, the guys at the Police department taped one in vibrate mode to the top of a light fixture in a Lieutenant’s office and would randomly call it.
