When I think of my favorite Westerns, Open Range is one of the top ones.

Quentin Tarantino called it "hands down Aldrich’s best film of the '70s, as well as being one of the greatest Westerns of the '70s. One of the things that makes the movie so remarkable is it isn’t just a Western; it combines the two genres that Aldrich was most known for, Westerns and war films."

Jack Burns (Kirk Douglas), refusing to conform to the world closing in on him, provokes a brutal fight with the deputies in a bar just to get arrested. It’s not about the violence—it’s a last stand against everything that’s changed.

Same here.....the shoot-out at the end is the best I've seen.
The sound is very realistic also.

I watched Ride the High Country (1962) last night. Dumb in ways that would never pass in today's movies, but a decent story and good cast. It was fun to see Mariette Hartley in her first credited film role alongside Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea in this Sam Peckinpah western. Had to rent it on Amazon for $3.99.
