2025 24 Hours of Lemans

Anybody at the 2025 24 Hours of Lemans? I’m in the T14 Barnato grandstand with little rocket man. We are across from pit out. First 24 for us.

Looking forward to a great race!

I didn't even realize the event was taking place this weekend. Duh.

Which Porsche cars are running at Le Mans in 2025?

The inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1923 saw 33 entrants line up on the grid. In 2025, the field currently consists (as of 12 June 2025) of 63 cars across the three categories.

When it comes to Porsche, there will be four Porsche 963 cars competing in the Hypercar class and three Porsche 911 GT3 R cars running in the LMGT3 category.

Three of the 963 racecars will be raced by Porsche Penske Motorsport, the Porsche works team, with one more being competed by customer team, Proton Competition. Porsche 911 GT3 R cars, meanwhile, will be entered by Manthey, Manthey 1st Phorm and Iron Dames.

Well-known drivers for the Porsche Penske Motorsport team include works drivers Kévin Estre, Felipe Nasr, Michael Christensen, Pascal Wehrlein and Laurens Vanthoor. Estre and Vanthoor, along with fellow co-driver André Lotterer, finished fourth overall at the 2024 edition of the race. In the LMGT3 category, the all-female team of Célia Martin, Rahel Frey and Sarah Bovy will compete for Iron Dames in a 911 GT3 R.

Porsche is running in hyper car and LMGT3. Interestingly there are only 3 Porsches in LMGT3 this year. I think there are as many or more mustangs.

How are the bugs??? Because they are absolutely horrible on the cars this year!

There is a big screen across from us and I thought it was raining on that section of track. Then, I realized it was bugs! 😂

It's become fairly limiting for customer cars with the WEC rules that require 2-car factory teams for all manufacturers. So all the regular WEC factory teams are automatically on the grid (2 GT3s and 2 Hypercars). Then there's the LMP2 field - not sure how those are selected. Any leftover spots go to invited customer cars. So there's just not many open spots these days. Sure seems weird to not have 10 911s in the field!

The LMP2 cars are all the same, I think. Is it a spec car?

All cars are Oreca chassis. Ligier has one too, but it is not competitive.

Did anyone else notice that after the checkered flag, the cars were running off line to pick up as much clag off of the side of the track to add weight to the car before entering impound? I caught the announcers talking about it after I saw multiple cars doing it.
Who was disqualified recently and used the excuse of not having pick-up on the tires when they pull the cars into the pits at the end of the straight without a cool down lap?
