Independence Day in Newport, RI
We spent the day in Newport yesterday and were lucky enough to get there just as this 21 gun salute was getting ready to fire. Three cannons fired 7 times. It was moving, very moving thinking of the farmers, shop owners, restaurant cooks, longshoreman... who had already dropped the tools of their trades and taken up arms, firing these same cannons in 1775 starting just a few months ago on April 19th. They fought for and built a nation.
We left after 3 firings. I think they started to use bigger charges as the blasts were getting louder. Still, 50-100 feet away, they were very loud in person. You really felt them.

Took a lot of video but most is you had to be there. This has a few minutes of loading and then firing.

Thanks for sharing the videos, Shaun.
Not a rapid fire operation for sure.
