I dont have the head shape that is good for hats.
by head shape, I mean LARGE.
my skin doctor admonished me to always cover my head. the hair abandoned me, so I wear a hat all the time. 90% ball cap, or flat cap. i have rimmed caps for fishing and such. I went hat shopping yesterday and it was disheartening. haha..I put on the one I was looking for..and she had to dig into the warehouse looking for bigger and bigger hats. apparently I am a 7.5" head size. a bonafide melon. dang it if the Stetson Open Road doenst look absolutely goofy on my head. that is a cool hat!! they only had felt versions, and I am not pulling off any JUSTIFIED vibes. I will try on the straw versions I originally targeted. and see. it would be cool to have a stylish hat for bbq parties and such. :(. my wife put on the felt hat and look absolutely hot. me..I giggled at myself. nope! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750608015.png |

I also have a big head. I've got a few Tilley hats, and the size that I wear is 7 ¾. I like the hat to fit fairly loose to keep from getting a headache. I could probably squeeze a 7 ⅝ on my noggin. I've had baseball hats where they only fit if adjusted to the largest or penultimate setting.

I dont wear adjustable ball caps. they cling for dear life on the last rung. hahahha.. I think I would wear a 7 5/8th in that stetson so i doesnt look like it is perched way high on my head. |
The only bike helmets that I can wear....I have to buy ones that are offered in X Large.
There aren't many that do that because they are all adjustable. I can't get the adjustable ones on my head. I don't wear hats. |
I'm in the same boat. Apparently I have what you call a "long oval" head. I measured my head, ordered a hat online. It's tight on my forehead and loose over my ears. I'm still messing with it, but I have a hat stretcher on it, and I guess I need to hit it with some steam to permanently change its shape.
The only ball cap I have that fits me decent is black. Bakes my head in the sun. I'm looking for a straw hat. Maybe not like the one you posted, maybe more like a cowboy hat. I really don't care anymore what people think I look like. Moving into my eccentric phase. |

I wish I could help, but...
There are two types of men in this world, and there is no middle ground: Those that look good in a hat then me and the rest of my people. ...and everybody knows. |

My follically challenged buddy wears baseball caps all the time, he is a big dude and sweats a bunch. He has indicated he pretty much has to throw hats out after they become saturated in sweat a few times because they start to stink even after washed. They may seem fine post wash he says, but as soon as he sweats a bit in them the stink returns immediately.
I experienced this re-haunting of stink with my Stan Smith Adidas shoes back in the day. |
I suppose big heads sweat a lot.

I'm thinking of becoming Jewish. Maybe there is a night class I can take or some online learning. But whatever it takes to get one of those little hats they wear. It would nicely cover my bald spot.
Yep, skin doc told me off for wearing baseball cap type hats as the sun still gets the side of your face. So I should follow your example and get a brimmed hat. Australians have an excellent hat as the sun is relentless over there. One of these may suit you? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750621577.jpg |

I asked him about the meshed type ones, and he said they could be a little better but did not like them or the adjustable type lids. He always gets the fitted ones and picks cool ones regularly.
His wife has taken to throwing them out when he puts them in the laundry. She says it's a bacteria thing (which he agrees with) and does not want them near her stuff... |

If you buy one you can always go a bit larger and place strips of self stick weather stripping inside the inner hat band to "tighten up" and make it comfortable. Pro tip: Get yourself a hat feather to add a bit of panache' and Bon Vivant-ness. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750622171.jpg |
Also, invest in a "hat stretcher" to keep size and shape in check. You can also mist the crown and expand a little bit to fit your noggin'.

I look like a dork in a baseball cap but pretty fine in a cowboy hat.
Somewhere, there is a Vash hat of some sort. |

Looks like something AG would wear... Reach out to him maybe? |

Cowboy hat. Every man looks good in a cowboy hat. From what you said, you probably need a lower crown like this one.

I don’t even own a single pair of blue jeans. ;)

I'm just under an 8, 63.75cm.
My folks wanted to buy me a hat in ecuador, didn't believe me when I warned them it would be tough. Gave them the size and they actually a shop that was able to reblock an existing hat to my size. Not my style but it fits! |

We'll all pitch in to get you a starter kit, a pair of wranglers, some boots, a Stetson cowboy hat, and a huge rodeo silver and gold buckle. The ladies won't be able to resist you! (despite living in Texas, surrounded by cows, I don't have any of those items) Quote:
