Interesting, project farm tests techron, sea foam, and MMO in the gas
This guy does some interesting stuff, but this is probably the most interesting, and he didn't shout through it which seems to usually be the case in his videos.
This probably doesn't exactly mimic what we'd see in a car, but it's probably a good indication. Interesting . Personally I think looking at test results after 6 months or so would be better . I don't care what Chevron says one tank is not sufficient to clean a fuel system including the combustion chamber .

I have not used additives in a long time. I did recently do a test on gasoline. There is a difference. At the dragstrip I was getting knock retard on 93 octane from Sams. I added 5 gallons on 110 race gas to 5 gallons of Sams 93 and got zero knocks. I did this to be sure I had no mechanical issues. I tried 93 from Caseys and also got knock retard. Finally tried 93 from Sunoco and got almost no knock retard. So, when I race I will use Sunoco 93.

I had noticed pinging in our cars from time to time. I had to get gas at another station besides my usual Chevron because I didn't have enough gas to get back there. I got gas at one of the non-major brands that you'd expect to have cheap gas and additives. I filled up from that non-name brand station and the pinging immediately stopped (the car had been nearly empty). I completely stopped using that Chevron and never had pinging again. I don't know if they just had crap tanks that leaked or if they were "topping off" their tanks with water or what. |
I datalog the stock ecm with HP Tuners. (borrowed) I started doing it because the car was very inconsistent at the track. Was amazed at the difference in the gasolines. FYI, I get bored and am always looking for a problem to solve.

The SC had been using a bit more fuel than it used to. But otherwise going well. I poured a bottle of the Techron into a nearly empty tank and used that then did a smalll fill up and another Techron. Wow, it was like driving a new/different car. And the fuel comsumption dropped back to normal. I swear by the stuff. My usual fuel is 98 RON octane Mobil has some sort of "engine cleaning" additive, but I think the Techron cleaned a dirty injector. |
I don't care about engine deposits, really. I do care about clogged injectors and carb orifices. On anything that gets limited use I dump in some seafoam or techron. All the power equipment gets ethanol free and a good dose of seafoam at the end of its season. And I leave the carbs filled-used to drain them but have much less trouble with eth free/seafoam/full carb.

My fuel injected bug liked a bottle of Techron, did it the tank before the oil change, every other time about. I bet I did over 150 oil changes on that car Best friend swears by thst Seafoam stuff to get cars to pass smog. He would spray it down the intake while revving the motor. Made a huge cloud of smoke. Changed the plugs and the oil, bingo every time |
Interesting I use my 91 octane ethanol free in my 85 911 with a 3.6. It just seems to run better and better the more I use it. I no longer use stable. I wonder what additives has in it?
