UselessTube

What on earth has happened over on YouTube? The relentless advertisements have rendered it completely unwatchable for me. Every video now opens with an ad, and the next one pops up in less than two minutes. I had what I thought was an effective "ad blocker" (I'm not sure which one, my son recommended it) that worked up until just recently. Any recommendations for something that actually works?

Lately, I've gotten intermittent really long ads on the front end of a video.

I've had some success watching a couple of seconds of the ad, then hitting the reload button, and then the actual video shows up.

Looking at the ad length is a good wakeup call to ask myself "Is this something I really wanted to watch in the first place?" Often- it's not and I turn it off.

I thought I actually did have a subscription. I'll have to check and see. I very rarely go there anyway, more just looking for "how to" video on something new I might want to try to tackle. I'm more than willing to buy their subscription to be able to do that without all of the ads.

I’ve had YouTube premium for years. I forgot there were commercials because I never see them. Best subscription I have. What’s ruining YouTube for me is all the AI fake crap and click bate title

Download the Brave browser. No more youtube ads. Best web experience out there.

Any problems with glitches or vids not playing properly?

ramonesfreak 06-25-2025 06:37 PM

I imagine that only works on a computer?

I watch YouTube on my big TV most. Sometimes iPad, rarely use my phone for anything

Jeff Higgins 06-25-2025 06:39 PM

Not sure if I want a different browser just for YouTube. What does "premium" cost? Like I said, I'm not on there much.

One ad per video, or one every ten or fifteen minutes would be tolerable like old fashioned network TV), but every minute and a half, and cutting content off mid sentence is just absurd.

Try Brave. Dont like it, uninstall it. I doubt you will.

$14 / month. For me, worth every penny as I spend 95% of my viewing time watching it on my TV. If I had to sit through a single commercial I would never watch it again just like I stopped watching Amazon Prime and rarely watch cable tv except news

JackDidley 06-25-2025 07:11 PM

Quick search shows no direct download for TV. Can likely sideload it but I am not going there.

shoemakj 06-26-2025 06:01 AM

Firefox + uBlock Origin = no ads on YouTube (or anywhere else, generally). This works on Windows, MacOS and Linux. Not sure about Android since I haven't used it for several years.

Does not work on iOS or iPadOS. For that you need something like the 1Blocker app and you must access YT through Safari NOT the YouTube app.

pksystems 06-26-2025 06:45 AM

Adblock Plus and use a computer.

Would apply to my phone and shop computer as well? I sure it will, just double checking. Well, there's tv, shop and home computer and phone.

Edit; I've been hit through the TV YouTube with 50+ second ads. Sometimes I can figure out how to jump to the video when "skip" is not an option but sometimes no.

Yes. Once you have the subscription you just log into youtube on whatever device, including TV, Ipad, PC, phone... and you will have no commercials.

I love this as I watch a lot of music concerts, performances etc...and nothing worse than constant commercials popping up mid-song etc...

I really feel of all my subscriptions, netflix, max, youtubeTV, Amazon etc....I get the most value from my youtube premium but thats me....I have always loved youtube since it debuted and watch it ALOT

I think the exact price is $13.98/month

There's no better way to ensure I never even think of watching your ad or buying your product than having your ad interrupt whatever I'm doing on my computer or phone. Who thinks these ads work? I have never once even thought of clicking on one that interrupted me.

GH85Carrera 06-26-2025 08:07 AM

I use YouTube on my computer, and with the appropriate add blockers. Only ads as part of the video are ever seen, and I can fast forward past them.

I simply don't bother using YouTube on my phone. The adds are just obnoxious and make YouTube useless.

911 Rod 06-26-2025 09:26 AM

We lasted about a week before paying for Premium. It was unwatchable.

Bob Kontak 06-26-2025 11:27 AM

Thanks Ramonesfreak!

I use YouTube daily on my phone if I need information or just vegging out. I'll work around the ads with some expletives. Useless is too "sugarwood" for me. Unilateral declarative statements stem from frustration and in sugarwood's case, profound insecurity. Perhaps I digress.

That said, I want to stab the people that decide when to shove them up my behind. "And the killer is......" ad pops up.

Pre-election times are horrid.

The slumber assist ten hour long videos having ad interruptions suck it. They last one interruption. (Try washing machines running - just saying - not to prove ads pop up but to go to sleep if there are no ads)

"Content creators" who possibly are able to choose how much ad bombardment they are able to allow suck it when they max it out. Maybe YouTube does it based on views?

I spend $15 on a six-pack of IPA.
