I'll second Tim on All American!

Always hit it up when I'm in the area.

Yep. I think there was a movie theater in that same shopping center. Watched many a movie there - and at the Bellair Plaza in Ormond!

We have Culvers right down the street and I have yet to try even after Steve's post several years ago.

You won't be disappointed. :D

I've had In-N-Out Burgers several times. They are not nearly as good as Culver's.

Waffle House .......... you can sit at the counter and watch your meal being made . Their burgers are as good as anyone's. Old time charm mixed with modern efficiency . You are greeted when you walk in and your order is taken at the counter/booth . You pay at a register to a human .

We used to have a SnS but it closed . We enjoyed going there but that was when humans took your order . If we are traveling and stop at a fast food restaurant for a quick bite if there is an ordering kiosk we turn around and leave . We are old school :D:Dguilty as charged :D .

Do you know the difference between Waffle House and Dennys??

Denny’s is for people who can’t fight .

I go to Steak and Shake when, 1, they send me a thing for a free shake or I’m just in a weird mood and want that (basically the only time I eat traditional fast food crap) , cause, like others have said, too many better options and when it comes to fast food, I don’t eat in, I order off the app and keep going or go home. But because I do have to spend time on the road, sometimes dragging a trailer, that limits my options.
I tend to do the next level up, a habit I got from being on the road. When Outback, Longhorn, Chili’s , etc has a gift card deal, I’ll use Outback as an example, cause one right down from the gun range I have a membership and shoot regularly at.
They do a “You buy a $50 gift card “ you get a additional $20 gift cards, so I can get a small steak, baked potatoe and a Fosters for the price of a so called meal at McDonalds, and I like the taste of them as well as can enjoy a beer.

Yes, 5 Guys is a option (a more expensive option at that) and they give you a Crap load of French fries, but that’s not my thing, if I go, most of the fries go to my Feral colony.
Typically, when I want a good burger, fast food is not on my radar, plus, they have increased the prices so much, there is no excuse other than immediate convenience and availability, to eat that crap.

My hamburger indulgence is satisfied on Wednesday nights, at the Elks lodge, I get that for $9, and sit on the river.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1751411925.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1751411925.jpg
Last month, that beer was $2.50. They cook them to order ,open fire grill.

We have Culvers as well and they do have a good burger, but my favorite fast food burger is Fat Burger, sadly we don’t have any here, but when in Vegas, I am there.
But the absolute best burger I have had, from anywhere in the country, coast to coast, is Jimmy P’s in Naples,Florida
https://jimmypssteaks.com/

The price has increased from when we had our retail stores down the road from there, from California, to upstate New York to south Florida, I still have not had a better burger than I use have the from there.

That’s a bit of a stretch from what I wrote. In hindsight, I should have said America, period. Corporate interests have always dictated what we eat and it’s not the best food. And people in rural America are not dumb but we’re all a product of what we’re exposed to. If someone doesn’t have many good, fresh food options, they are going to eat what’s available because we all get hungry.

I eat lousy food sometimes because of convenience or time constraints, (had Taco Bell yesterday), but I sure as heck don’t think that it’s good. And In-and-Out is only good compared to other fast food, (an extremely low bar), it’s fresher and less processed than other fast food. A burger from McDonald’s has so much salt that you could store nuclear waste inside of it. If someone thinks that some chain restaurant has good food, I feel for them, regardless of where they live.

Really?! I’ve been to way worse food deserts than Eaton, based on the map there are a lot of places I’d try. Red Mule Inn, Eaton Place, and Blu Sky all look great based on a cursory look. I travel a lot, and have a rule about never eating at restaurants that I have at home.

Come on Denis, I’ve travelled the country and I know you have as well. This is a really ignorant ass post. I’ll tell you one thing for certain, when you’re eating at the Red Mule Inn in Eaton Ohio, there’s not a hobo taking a crap on the sidewalk.SmileWavy

Lol, no. Tried it, still fast food.

I don’t think most of us took it that way, many of us have different experiences, some have a more refined palette, others think that a Big Mac or a Whopper is great. I remember going to lunch with some friends in Charleston, he owns a very high end shop, they have cars competing on the national level, his sons were young,at that point. We were going to lunch and one of the sons wanted to go to one of those really cheap, nasty, all you can eat pizza places. One that rolls out cardboard, pours tomato paste and cheese and $1.99 all you can eat. Me,I’m a pizza snob, (although I will admit that I have a soft spot for the brand that kept me fed in college) and still go to the same restaurant that I used to go to since 1977) I asked him “why”?, he said it was cheap.
Of course both of his sons are very successful, being professional drivers, and will take their Fathers business well into the future. One of them, besides making a name for himself as a professional racer, is a very competitive shooter as well. I look at his competition gun, and look at mine, that a lifelong friend won a couple of National Championships with (custom Kimber from the Compition shop, when Kimber was new) and there is no comparison . Hey Speeder, let’s go grab a bag of Krystal burgers, lol.

I’ve yet to experience the mythical bum taking a crap on the sidewalk outside of a restaurant here, still waiting for that one. Maybe we can agree that we’re all fed what the corporate media wants to feed us as well? :)

Lots of good food here but of course everything is getting too expensive. We’re all a product of what we are exposed to, I’m just a hick from the Midwest but I’m constantly being exposed to a food scene that has leveled up my understanding of great food, even if I don’t get a chance to experience all of it. I just learned about this place today from an article in the local news, apparently it’s been voted the best restaurant in the world multiple times by food critics and it’s coming to LA:

https://www.latimes.com/food/story/2025-07-01/why-rene-redzepi-chose-los-angeles-for-next-noma-pop-up-residency

Never heard of it before but then I’m not a foodie on that level. Will be a tough reservation but still! I also know that this is a bit of a segue from the OP but hey, that’s OT. :)

speeder 07-01-2025 04:53 PM

Kind of cool to read about and admire from a distance…it’s like the Formula One of food.

Sadly I have here, at least close. There use to be a neat little restaurant, in a Park in Downtown Jacksonville, and I took a date for lunch there, a homeless clown comes up, asking for money, clearly I didn’t give him enough, as he turned around and dropped trowel right there. Had I reacted the way I wanted, I’d still be in jail. Just last week, a local pub I go to ($3 Sweetwater 420 pints and $3 Jagarbombs) some chick was out front asking people to buy her a beer( no, I didn’t, I only do that when I want to irritate someone inside, but a few drinks, pay for them and leave them there) yea, I know,I’m a A-hole,

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1751418035.jpg
And the manager told me that when she came to open the other week, that another person, in a “similar” situation, was taking a squat on the side of the building.
Mind you, this not near the city core, nor near anything close to ghetto, but there are some woods near by that are inhabited.

HobieMarty 07-01-2025 05:41 PM

We used to have a Steak N Shake in the area but it closed. I ate there a time or two and wasn't impressed, so, not all that sad that they closed. We have lots of burger places to choose from here. Freddie's, Culver's, Five Guys, Cook Out, just to name a few.

Kopps had decent burgers and good frozen custard. Not as good as they used to be, but still good.

Stay classy San Diego. As someone who has spent a lot of time in CA I’ve had some good food, most of which required dodging hobos on the sidewalk and paying a ridiculous price. But if you need to roll with your humble brag to make yourself feel better, I’m all for affirming your life choices. Meanwhile I’ve had amazing meals all over the country, many out in BFE. Crazy concept, fresh beef and poultry doesn’t typically come from the city…

CA. is a big place. LA is a big place. I know that you've been on some freeways and maybe even stayed in a Holiday Inn here but I'm thinking that you really don't know a lot about it. We all bring our biases along with us when we travel and yours are pretty obvious for all to see. You don't like cities, you don't like the west coast and you basically don't like anything too outside of your comfort zone, which is Kansas. I get it. It's not a real popular POV, however, out in the world. :)

And good beef and poultry come from just about everywhere. It's fresh produce that doesn't travel well, hence the greatest restaurants are here. What's the biggest farm state in the country, Matt?

onewhippedpuppy 07-02-2025 05:36 AM

So here’s the problem Denis, you don’t know me at all. You like to portray yourself as worldly but in reality you have a myopic perspective that CA is the center of the universe that you are constantly shilling to anyone that will listen. Furthermore you’re too narcissistic to actually listen to anyone else or look beyond your bias. You are the typical self centered personality that is too busy composing a response that you miss what the other person is saying. If you actually paid attention to what I posted you’d know that I spent the last three years living in Dallas for work and loved it, it’s very likely we’ll move back after my freshman finishes high school. That I travel regularly for work, all over the country and internationally to a lesser extent. You’d know that I very strongly dislike KS and am only staying here for my kids to finish school. You’d also probably realize that I’ve spent weeks all over LA for work, in addition to Sacramento, Tehachapi, Temecula, Palmdale, Mojave, San Diego, and probably others that I have forgotten. I would very safely bet that I have a more informed perspective on CA than you have on KS. So in short you are totally FOS. Pretty sad considering you’re one of the few Pelicans that I have actually met in person on several occasions.

(14 minutes to Culver's - today may be the day)

I have had Steak n Shake in the Naperville area (far west Chicago suburbs). I liked it.
