One of the screws has enough space between it and the duct that I think it's worth trying the heating method. Soldering iron on the screw - heat translates down to the insert and heats it enough to free it from the post so I can pull them both out.

The downside of this method is there are 3 fasteners total. Just pulling one out is going to apply a degree of torsion on the duct. However.....once everything cools back down I can slide the insert back into the post and thus relieve any torsion. Then move onto the next one. Rinse repeat.

This is the iron I used. I use it for fairing welding with a wider triangle shaped tip. I put this smaller tip on it for this job. Sucker gets hot FAST too!

Ha - so true. Which is why no amount of penetrate would have done anything. I'm stoked the heat method worked so well. They came right out like a bad tooth!

Put some anti seize or dielectric grease on the threads of the screws going into the new inserts . Hopefully that would allow removal down the road .

Thanks, Rick. I already have two the same year and model. '83 VF750F. One is a Euro! So I am set for that year and model, thanks.

I also have an '84 - same model, but a year newer. And it has dual Kerkers like the one in your link.

I have two more in the pipeline right now. One set to be delivered next week and the second to be delivered at end of month, hopefully.

The one next week is another BLUE '87 VFR700F in good running condition and comes with a slew of extra parts from a parts bike the same year, model, and color.

The second bike is a '90 VFR750F - just like one I bought two years ago and still have. The first year of the Gen 3 Interceptors. But in better condition than mine and with a few mods.

After these deliveries, I will have 21 Interceptors in total. Which I think is enough until I start selling some off, which I plan to do. The bikes I sell with have fresh rubber, in good running condition with all their fairings in place.

I'm doing fairing repair work right now and learning a lot about that. Next will be painting.
