Goodbye Artie (our cat)

Artie took his last ride Monday morning. The poor guy had cancer, with extensive tumors. I didn't get to say goodbye. I was out of town when he declined precipitously. Vic took him for his last ride by herself - kudos to her for her courage and compassion. I wish I had been home.

Artie and his littermates (Townes, Levon, and Smokey) are special to us because Vic rescued their pregnant mother, and we were present when they were born. We watched them grow into cats over the years. They have been 4 of the many joyful gifts in our lives.

I took this picture a few minutes after they were born. Artie is the tiny orange lump of fur.

Townes was Artie's favorite plaything.

Artie and Townes were close to each other throughout his life. When the cats were out lounging, you could count on those two being together.

This is the last picture I have of him, from the day before I left for Boston. He was sick and had stopped grooming himself, but he was still moving around and eating without apparent pain. He still purred loudly when I held him and petted him. Rest in Peace little guy. I miss you.

I’m sorry. He looks like a wonderful cat, and I bet he had a great life with you and his siblings. Cats and dogs are amazing creatures. Their humans often don’t deserve their love, but you did.

That sucks. Those were lucky fur balls to be born in your care.

astrochex 07-08-2025 08:02 AM

I'm sorry man. You will always have the memories and purrs.

Bugsinrugs 07-08-2025 08:49 AM

It’s amazing how these sweet creatures can weave their way into our hearts. So painful when they’re gone. My condolences.

Orange cats are special creatures. We’ve had a few that have been close to our hearts and currently have an orange cat and a blond cat. RIP Artie.

Damn, two cat obits on the same day. I'm really sorry for your loss, Patrick; thank you for sharing those wonderful pictures.

Sending you and your wife my condolences. We lost a 20 year old Turkish Angora to cancer in 2022. We have both cats and dogs and they are more similar than different in my view. Artie was deeply loved and that is far more than most get in their lives. Celebrate Artie's life in your family's own way.

Poor guy. I've been thru it a few times and it's always awful. :(

Baz 07-08-2025 01:31 PM

So sorry for your loss, Patrick. Artie had a great life and knew he was loved. That's what counts the most.

Sincerest condolences......Baz and Koko-Nut

+1....hang on to the good memories. In time, the pain becomes less.

Sorry for your loss.

We lost our cat of 20 years (Latte) a couple of weeks ago.

It was heart wrenching.

vash 07-11-2025 08:26 AM

another cat loss. so sorry. RIP Artie!!

jyl 07-11-2025 10:15 AM

So we are wrestling with the question of when to get another cat or kitten. My son opposes even talking about it right now. The rest of us are scrolling through the cute kittens and needy older cats on the local shelter website. This house is a great home for a cat and there are so many that need that.

vash 07-11-2025 10:16 AM

if you ask my wife..she would want you to get a RagDoll kitten. hahahha
