National Hot Dog Day

is today. Lot of places are giving away free dogs or specials.

Favorite dog? Should ketchup ever be closer than 10 feet away from hot dogs? Toppings: name notwithstanding, should they be on the top or underneath the dog? And so on.

Chili dogs with western PA sauce from David L

Mayonnaisse, always--on the bun, spicy brown mustard on top, onions. OR a chili dog, with or without cheese.

All beef hot dog with Skyline Chili, chopped onions, and cheese. (Just order a "Skyliner" - I wish they used better hot dogs)

I also like chopped onion and pickle with a little German mustard.
I don't put ketchup on anything. The closest I will get to ketchup is Del Monte Chili sauce, which is what ketchup ought to be.

The Dodger Dog may not be the existential dog but it stands alone. The wiener goes on the bun first. And of course they provide ketchup, mustard, relish and fresh onions. That's Costco and the West Coast for you. Costco onions by request kept behind the counter for sanitary reasons. The rest is packaged and cheap.

On my morning bike ride today....I pedaled past a small cafe with a sign out front that said.....

"No Mayo?...What the Hellman?"

I thought it was funny.

Damn, that looks tasty.

But, I will admit, I have absolutely no problem with an Oscar Meyer with American cheese, ketchup and mustard. I haven't bought Oscar Meyer hot dogs or American cheese in years, but if I was at a cookout where that's what they had, I'd eat the hell out of it.

I like to put the cheese on the bun and then put the toppings (it's in the name) on top of the dog/bun.

This place makes some damn good dogs (and all of the stuff, buns, dogs, condiments, etc..., comes from small mostly local makers of good stuff, not the back of a Sysco semi).

If I'm buying dogs at a regular grocery store (it's been years), I think I either get Nathans or Hebrew National.

But we're usually at WF and when there we get these, "Fork in the Road" brand "honest dogs"
Fork in the Road

One of my favorite things are chili dogs. And the chili better be chunky with beef and flavorful, actual chili, and then there should be plenty of cheese.

I've heard about costco hot dogs. I guess I'm going to have to try one some time.

I've been to NY a few times. I do regret never having had a hot dog out of a cart during a visit.

I'd suggest three chili-cheese dogs hot pressed from the VARSITY.....downtown Hot'Lanta!!

Add a side of chopped onions, heavy mustard, and yes a side of ketshup (used as a dip for every bite....like chicken wings ).

Apologize in advance.....no pics available

Grilled with mustard only. If it's a chili-dog, grilled, with mustard, chili, and cheese. Simple.
