Wow... How do you value something like that? That could easily fetch north of a million dollars.

(BTW Paul Newman's "Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 6239" sold for $17,752,500 - 7 years ago)

Hard to match the provenance of that gun! For me, it was a striking bonus to the TV series starring Steve McQueen. Similarly, the Winchester featured in The Rifleman, handled by Chuck Conners, which was a more central feature to that show, but without as much character as the Mare's Leg. I wonder if it's the same one as this:

In 1964, one of the Mare's Legs was auctioned off in Paris by French singer Gilbert Bécaud in the presence of Steve McQueen. The funds raised were donated to the French Movement for Children's Villages (now called Action Enfance).

There's some fantastic guns being sold at this auction as well: https://www.rockislandauction.com/riac-blog/rock-island-auction-company-gun-auctions-2025-august-premier

Thanks for posting this, Patrick!

Checking to see if gun was the same one as was sold in Paris (it was not), I found this interesting article. McQueen's stock as a person rose significantly for me.

Rock Island has sold some stunning guns!

The estimate of $50,000 - $75,000 sounds absurd:
