Cool Picture thread...plants, flowers, landscaping, & horticulture

Let's start the thread off in style - with everyone's favourite plant....bamboo!

This pic from a project of mine, taken a little over a year after planting, using Bambusa textilis 'Gracilis' - aka Graceful Bamboo used as a screen & backdrop for this client's backyard. The plants underneath are Microsorum diversifolium - aka Kangaroo Fern.

If you do a little research you'll find there are certain bamboo varieties that work really well in the landscape.

This particular variety maintains a fairly compact foot print and tends to have a nice vertical growth habit making it ideal for smaller planting locations.

I've heard kudzu is a nice ground cover too. Or train it to a trellis for a trouble free landscape focal point. It requires very little maintenance.

Wow....some nice diversity there, Bob....thanks!

BTW.....having something to sit down on while in the garden is sometimes helpful. Especially if you need a brief break for your back and legs. I have made some simple benches like this one that are surprisingly comfortable for temporary use and can fit into smaller areas too. Just a 2x10 and 4x4's for the legs. Polyurethane/stain on the top and paint for the rest - I also coated the bottom of the legs with some black jack.
