Great spot.

There are technical avenues to address this but they will never be accepted. There is no Mother's Against Distracted Driving.

Yep, it was. I never answer my phone if I am driving. Just leave a message. Texts can wait. In my wife's Macan she has Apple car play for the driver's phone. It will read a message out loud, and let me reply verbally. And of course the phone is totally hands free.

I have a Blaupunkt head unit in my 911 that is Bluetooth connected to my phone, and could do hands free, but it is loud enough in there with just stock exhaust it would be a pain to do. The El Camino has a unit that looks like it came from the factory, but it too is Bluetooth if I want. I don't want.

Actually there are a few. Just not named "Mothers." Maybe that sounded redundant.

^^^ We all know the problem, which would not be hard to fix, but any attempt to take away the Phone of Delphi while operating a 2 1/2 ton vehicle at speed will not be welcomed.

And, let's be frank, we have all done it, including me: I just don't now.

I spent some coin getting my 1996 LC phone friendly, including a new radio with remote, line of sight holder and hands free operation.

Even then, less is more.

I can easily send a text by just telling Siri, text (whoever) and say my short message, and say send.

I just don't have any "mission critical" messages or phone calls in my life. If I am in heavy interstate traffic and 60 MPH or so, I will not even do the voice text. I pay 100% attention to the road and traffic.

In traffic like this, yea, I might use Siri to send a text.

I have not been involved in a car wreck since I failed to wait at a stop sign for the idiot to actually make their stop, back in 1978. They just ran the stop sign and got me. Partially my fault for thinking they could see a giant red stop sign and obey traffic signs.

Social media platforms, on-line retailers, content providers, 'influencers', and advertisers want people engaged with their devices every waking moment...no matter what else they may be doing at the time.

I don't answer my phone when I am driving. My wife gets mad, I do not dig talking on the phone and driving, even with the hands free. Do not like the touch screen controls in cars, you have to look at them to use them
