Forty dollar box
When these came out 5-6 years ago they were a godsend. $17.99 at Home Depot, it was as if someone sat down and designed a box system specifically to ship 911 door frames. Perfect size, sleeved for extra strength. And they were heavy duty!
Then they went to $19.99 and $21.99 pretty quickly. Then at $21.99 the quality heavy duty build was cheapened, thinner cardboard, and thinner box width. But still worked great. They slowly climbed to $23.99 then $24, then $27.99 leveling off at $29.99 for the last 2 two years, last one I bought was 2 months ago or so. Have bought at least 50+ in this time. $39.99 today. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1754587703.jpg |
I buy from Uline for boxes to ship artwork. You may have to buy 5 at a time but prices are decent.

Yikes I would have guessed 7-10$ by the pic of the box.

Thanks Craig, I get all my regular boxes and tape from Uline. Priced out 10 to be $28 each with shipping but the issue is these are single layer boxes. What's so great about the TV box is they are a box in a box system so double wall. I've never had a problem with damage during shipping with them, suspect I would with single wall boxes.

Geez, that’s some expensive cardboard.

Looks like U-haul has them a little cheaper. You should have a local dealer you can pick up from, I know U-Line shipping can get $$$$....

I'll check those u-haul out. BTW, I'm not paying for them, I charge $100 in packing (box included) if the customer doesn't get one to ship their frame set to me. Many don't. Most are reusable but some are torn up in shipping so a new one is needed.
When they came out I couldn't believe they were only $18 but $30 is what I would call realistic. $40 is crazy. |
Dynamic pricing for you !
Increase the price until sales drop just a little. Maximize profits ! Cheers |

yes Steve, that's what Craig found too.
the issue for me, a small one, is I go to Home Depot on a semi-regular basis so it's easy and time-neutral to get one. Uhaul is close to the shop too, they know me since I rent trailers so much, but I'd have to be creative in getting over there so I don't lose time. I'm happy to bill my customers $30 for a box, $40 starts to look weird. But then it's nothing given the time and money that goes into restoring a set. I just don't get the huge price increase, they're made here. |
I save cardboard for various reasons. The most I use them for is patterns and mock ups. Big tough appliance boxes have allowed me to design a custom life size entry door for someone that couldn't "picture" it and she was a decorator. I even painted it the house color. It had simulated glass panels. I sold the job easy with the mock up door in the opening.
I have also scored one side and made custom boxes. I always use fiberglass reinforced tape and thin wood paneling inside if necessary. Taping over the folded seams with the old paper tape works fine. |
Maybe its scarcity from lack of demand? the price of tvs is dropping faster than the price of boxes is rising - at some point theyll intersect…

40 dollar box is a good band name, or a strip joint that has 40$ lap dances.
How much is a lap dance these days? I think around 20$ the last time I was aware, maybe 25 years ago. |

Well, more about a guitar than a cardboard shipping container, but you get the idea. Johnny hit #11 with it in 1963. Daughter Rosanne hit #1 with her cover in 1988. She hit 3 more #1s from the same album, too.
