Pet seat protector - what are you using ?
 

Since buying our 5th wheel camper my wife and I along with our dog are doing a lot of camping . Our dog Luke , being a GSD mix sheds hair like a machine ! Our GMC extended cab has cloth seats , the back seat has about an R3 insulation value of dog hair :D

So been thinking about some sort of seat protector . The hair cleanup is one concern the other being Luke's safety . The " hammock style " seat protectors seem to be an effective way to help protect a dog if you have to slam on the brakes . We have tried a blanket tucked in the best we could but it always gets flipped up defeating the purpose .

Luke is great in the truck , generally after 2 minutes on the road he lays down and just chills . So you guys/gals that have a full size truck and a medium to large dog what works for you ? The reviews on the big A for seat protector hammocks from 20 bucks to 100 bucks seem about the same . Loose fit , easily torn , zippers fail and ventilation screen easily wiped out .

Even brands like Carhart have mixed reviews on quality/durability . Seems like they have gone off shore for seat protectors . And I don't think they make a hammock style I could be wrong . Just curious what if anything you are using .

WE have a WeatherTech in our Lexus that is great! ITs not a Hammock style but it covers the seat perfectly and hair removal is super easy. I bought a Chevy brand for the Colorado, it was less than half price of the weatherTech, but I wish I spent the extra money for the Weathertech!! It fits horribly and the hair sticks to it!

+1 for the Weathertech. Easy on and off, folds up and fits under the seat.

When we had the Ram and the kids weren’t with, we would fold up the back seat and put the dog bed on the floor.
Easier to get him in and he just lay down. Nails didn’t meth up the leather - which was a bonus. He scratched through one of those hammock types one time. One time was sufficient.

i bought a hammock type for the back of my new tacoma.

i'm not sure it worked. hair and grit still go everywhere and now you not only have to vacumn a truck, but you have to vacumn out a dang hammock.

i saw a guy at a rest stop blow his vehicle out with an electric leaf blower. i wanted to borrow it.

I'd get a moving blanket. No protection for hard braking. I have no answer for that. Might not even be in the same category.

I used to walk past a car with a setup like this. It seemed like a pretty good idea since it covered EVERYTHING in the back seat. I'd assume that 98% of the hair would stay in the valley created by the blanket, and you could then take the blanket out to clean it. I have no idea how well it actually works.

How hard to pull the rear?

Those work quite well, especially with the alcantara type material. I use a Dyson to vacuum it off and it does a good job. A crevice tool will help in te hard to reach spots.

If you're on the road, go to a laundromat to wash it. lol

Yep that's considered a hammock style . Some have a hard bottom like the one in the pic . The hard bottom is some kind of plastic/cardboard honeycomb that slips into the envelope of material . Then there are others that are just fabric material . Unfortunately many reviews ( not all ) say they just don't hold up . And it seems like they all are made for crew cab pickups . I have an extended cab . Off to the weather tech website I go :D

We use one like this for our two. Plus two beds designed for the car that raise them up so they can see out. The downside is Uninstalling it when we need the backseat for humans. Otherwise it works great.

I just use a real cheap hammock style and put a moving blanket on top of it for comfort.

This may be the path forward .

Bought a hammock style from the big A it was delivered today . Install took about 4 minutes . We are going camping next week so it will get a workout . It looks like it should work fine .
